ECC RAM...

Kind of off-topic but..

Hey guys, I'm pretty much a n00b with all this techno stuff but I have a simple little question for you all.. What is ECC RAM? A few days ago I accidently ordered a 256MB ECC SDRAM instead of the normal 256mb SDRAM stick and I was wondering whats the difference between the two and if I could just use that on my "Asus A7V133 AMD Socket A KT133A ATA 100 ATX" motherboard instead of having to go through all that trouble of exchanging the ECC memory. I'd really apreciate the help. Thank you :)

don't worry your self, it's error correcting ram,for it to do it's job you must use all ecc ram in your system.it will work with regular ram but just wont error correct.a way to tell if ram is ecc is to count the chips on it, even number= non ecc odd number = ecc. the extra chip does the error correcting. :)

You will have a much harder time getting ECC memory to overclock. ECC memory does NOT like to run faster than its rated speed. With normal SDRAM, a good PC133-rated DIMM will often do 150Mhz without a burp.
