How reliable are ATX power supplies? I like the big cb radio supplys with meters but there way expensive...what are the recomendations?

im currently working on a 600W power supply

its a bigass trafo (+-6KG) with a rectifier and a few big condensators..
the ripple for a TEC can be 15% (!)..
mine has appr. 10% ripple when its ready..

when ready it can deliver +-35A at 16V ... thats enough for my 2 156W TECs to work at full blast..

but with a xtra resistor 12V-16V can also be obtained.

when im ready.. i'll make a review..

that trafo i was talking about...

i found a new one.. !

10V @ 90A and 30V @ 30A

now only the switching regulator to make volts I want..

Hey Frank,
Where could I find a 24V 15-20A Variable power supply or make one to the voltage I want, I'm not the greatest at electrical schematics. If it's a black wire and a red one I'm alright or if it is worded in plain english I can do it.

If you wan't a simple powersupply you can using a trafo, a bridge rectifier and a few condensators. You can use the following program: http://www.arcobel.nl/~dabit/pelt_supply.zip

Just enter the Vmax, the Imax for yer pelt and the ripple you would like to have and the program tells you what components you have to use.

My original plan was to build a powersupply like this for powering my pelts, but i'm now planning to use a trafo with a home build switching power regulator http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif. I don't have the skills to design one, but DaBit (also the writer of the program above) is bussy designing one.
