I received a Snap Appliance 4500 with 4x 250GB drives. It currently only has 3 working, so the RAID is in "Degraded" mode. I have a drive on order, but in the meantime I am looking for anything that represents a newer version of GuardianOS.

I am debating on simply backing up the Guardian OS after I get a new drive in it, and the RAID re-synched. OR I may just wipe it and replace it with a Good linux distro like CentOS or Possibly windows 2003 server. I have also considered FreeNAS booting from a USB key and then I would get all 4 drives for a full 1TB.

Here is the "Status" screen from it.

We need a expert for the guardian os on the forum. Why don't use use it as a learning tool. Set it up. Fail drives to see how the recovery process works.

What we do know is if there are NO drives. NO OS, NO BOOT. No one has ever tested to see of the procedures we use for the snap os will work on the guardian os.

I dont think you would be able to get the device to boot freenas, cent os or server 2003

As there is not a way to install it and configure it

I thought one user got it to boot a unix flavor, but had problem with the nic and telenet.
