I have encountered this a few times and don't know any other solution than wiping windows and reloading, I've tried the usual stuff, I.E. remove al networking devices and just install the nic driver and tcpip.

The nic gets a lease from DCHP, but dns never seems to bind to the stack. winipcfg reports all the correct addresses, but no program can perform dns lookups. I think AOL F*CKS up the registry concerning the tcpip stack.

does anyone have an easier solution than wiping windows?

patch, reg entry, instructions, anything will be appreciated!!!

Is AOHell's little TCP/IP protocol still in the network setup?

no, I remove every component, then reistall the network adapter and it loads the files from the win98se CD.

I'm pretty sure the problem is in the registry.

Its been a while since I posted the original thread, but here is a quick and easy fix.

use regedit to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE / SYSTEM / CurentControlSet / Services
Delete the Winsock2 key
Go To Control panel / add remove programs / windows components
Uninstall Dial-Up Networking
When that is finished, reboot
Go To Control panel / add remove programs / windows components
ReInstall Dial-Up Networking
this will rebuild the winsock entries in the registry.

you should now be able to resolve addresses. :)

Instructions for XP might be slightly different. ;)
