Mike has wrote an excelent editorial about the state of the review industry. He nails almost every thing I HATE about review sites.

Worth a read, and I cant wait for part 2.

I give his editorial, the new ProCooling "Editorial's Choice Award!" 9/10 rating!! 5 stars!

heheh the irony :)

Glad I am not the only one seeing this. He hit some of the things I hate about modern tech sites aswell. I made a lengthy post in one of these threads here with my opinion which was pretty similar. Glad the they have the balls to bring it up!

EDIT: Here is my post: http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8440 If I was a little more civil I could write a book. :D

If you notice, and I sure as hell did, but procooling in almost every shape and form is a polar opposite from his description... I am happy bout that ;)

he didnt rag on staffers being bastards in the forums so we are good there also ;)

Yeah, it is one of the reasons ProCooling is the only site I browse anymore for cooling stuff. We had our differences but you are definatly going about things well here Joe. The ANAL bit gets a little old now and then though but one of the few sites I have faith in for decent information.

Yeah you damn staffers! The owner should be ashamed! ;) :D

It's probably just a side effect of NOT being run by kids or even having a lot of kiddie forum members.

Somewhat related read where Michael Chrichton discusses all that is wrong with environmnetalism:

http://www.crichton-official.com/speeches/speeches_quote05.html

Interesting because you can see without a doubt some parallels to the topic of hardware sites today and rampant fanboyism.

Wasn't anandtech started by a highschool kid?

Yep, your point? I dont remember anyone saying every review site is as bad as Mike has stated. just that most are. :)

yea, but Ph was insinuating that a site could be good or bad as a result of being run by kids.

I was just saying, that's not always the case.

I think overall pH is exactly right. But kid is more of a measure of maturity than age. I know some 28 year old kiddies who run websites that are less mature than some 16 year olds.

Kiddies + website = shit. Its an almost perfect equasion with no rounding issues or anything ;)

This makes me remind about a portuguese forum i do visit.
All the PRO-users (lol) keep saying and saying that Aquacomputer is god and perfect. Even when its not.

They released a new water pump, Aquastream, based on the ehein 1046.
They say that it has more than enouf flow for all kind of water cooling systems, even the ones with CPU, NB, GPU HDD, etc etc, and i dont question them, because i dont know Aquacomputer blocks.

Yes they look nice.

But some users have apeared saying that their pump, after some times, or changing rigs, stopped working. The electronic part of it (with a jumper to fill the system, "pretty" lights to say its on or off) burns off with only some handling.
I said to go with normal eheims, since they dont have all those fancy stuff, work the same and are cheaper.

They went berserk saying it was perfect, there was no better, etc etc.
They are so blind with it they cant see its flawss...

Of course 95% of the users believe more on the GODs with 2k, 3k or 4k posts than anyone else...

same with AMD vs. Intel, NVIDIA vs. ATi; etc etc. Ford vs. Chevy and so forth.

nothing more than the age old battle between reason and faith
unfortunately reason seldom wins in the short term
and looking a religion (aka fanboyism), not gonna win in the long term either unless we get seriously into changing our mate selection habits

I guess i'll let them by themselves.
Maybe they learn (not).

@Satanicoo

I've been there (at that forum) since the early days(about 2 years ago). Trying to explain a few concepts which they didn't grasp ...
of course all dismissed .
Oh yeah, as far as their expertise (experts) goes, flow is uninfluenced by pump, tube diameter and barbs, and aluminum is a better heat medium than copper.
So i just stopped posting.
Good people, but blind by "faith", as bill puts it.

Anyway, about the pump. Two things i'd like to point out, not apologizing anybody.
One, AquaComputer gets them from Eheim, disassembles them, sticks the dc power converter and reassembles the thing. I dont know if they're doing a "mediocre job", but i think it's lack of experience, it's not a "simple operation" , so boken plastic, damaged o-rings, etc, have appeared, in small numbers. Quality control is flawed , as it is a new product.
Two, the pump control is a good concept, but what kills it is the user interface. The "fill jumper" , stresses the pump , and probably toasts the dc converter if no attention is paid. Or something similar. I'd like to get one to test that, but 80 bucks... outch.

You can make a small comparison (small) with the MCP600. It has a few initial problems, but swiftly resolved. (pun intended :D).
I'd let some time go to "see where it goes".

hahaha rich! it must be influenced by the moons graviational pull. Brings to meaning to the "Tidal" pool waterblock design :)

Eh... i've done that. :D
See ?

Just connect the block to the barbs and cool your cpu with tidal power(tm) !. It also leave a nice minty fresh aroma in your tubing. (Foam not included)

One of the major issues Canada faces is that when their youth become educated they move away. Ponder this for a moment; the first thing that bright young people do is get the hell out.

Not sure what that says about me though :)
