View Full Version : Anyone has a 100% custom case?

I myself do not like standard, in a sense that even a "standard" TDX waterclock is not good enough.

I started to build my own cases. I currently have a Shuttle SB75G2 board in a acrylic 250mm clear tube with green acryllic accents.

Is there anyone here that shares my interest in building custom cases?

P.S. I plan on making a custom case around an Abit IC7Max3, P4 2.8C with an R9800XT both cooled using watercooling and Pelts. I want a metallic look, with also some clear acryllic. Something like this, only different...

i think it would be cool if the LEDs on the front were used to show ram activity like the XMS ones

You know, I've always though to myself, why not just make a drive rack and leave my mobo in the static bag? I could cut holes for the cards and heatsinks and I'd be good to go.

But then I realize, the MOSFETs would probably melt it.

I am in the planning/preparation stages for my custom case. Dimensions will be 19"Hx22"Dx15"W, housing 2 complete watercooling loops with 2 77 b'ville heater cores, 2 pumps, etc... I will be using 1/4"x1" aluminum bar for the frame, 1/8" aluminum sheet for the MB tray, and 1/4" acrylic 2-way mirror for the sides. This will make the case transparent from the outside when the cc are on, but because the inside will be mirrored, it will reflect everything (infinitely in some places)! :) I hope to have the frame and main panels done early next month, so I'll post some pics.

Aren't anti-static bags electrically conductive? I believe they are plastic bags with an electrically conductive grid imbedded in them. Not the best thing to be wrapping a live motherboard in.

well I haven't actualy built it yet, finishing up the design currently and will begin building in a few weeks, but here's what the 100% custom case i'm building is going to look like when i'm done.

I used Solidworks 2004 to make the model.

Here is the design for my case. I am still working on the airflow setup, any suggestions are very welcome, as I'm still pretty new to this kind of designing. The panels will be two-way mirrored acrylic (mirrored section will be on the inside). It has dual PSU's, 2 complete water cooling circuits, removable mb tray, etc...

Took 3 weeks to get all the dimensions for the parts.
Modeled every part first then built the assy
The hardest dims was the pci slots and mb mounting
A good place to get the MB dims is formfactors.org

why not a removable motherboard tray?

part of my job is to weld and fabricate and I build lots of quirky things in my spare time, I dislike normal rectangular box frames and both my projects have been a big departure from standard case design.
I'm waist deep in my current project and I posted a few questions about building the rad here, I should be getting around to bending it up soon.

thanks I'm trying to pound this one out on a relatively small time table, hopefully I'll be done in time for Millionmanlan 5. I hope to have the remainder of the heavy fabrication work done by the end of april which is when my fab class ends
