Calling all minutia nuts.

I found a place on the web where i can order thumbscrews by the pound. (Well, almost.)
Xoxide, Plycon, etc., 50 cents a piece? Excuse me? I don't think so.

But I have no Idea what thread to order.
The first person who can answer this ... I'll send ya a few!
What is the standard PC case thread size?

Thanks all.

WHOMP!!

Before you reply, I think the 10 paks for (fill in the outrageous price) is a rip off too.

bigben2k 03-24-2003 08:01 PM

thread is 6-32, I think... let me check!

Whomp 03-24-2003 08:03 PM

The "fine" 6-32 is for the floppy drives, and such.

Double and triple checked...

Funny, I just got two 10-pack of black ones, for $1.99, from svc. (they still owe me a working UV CCFL tube).

I need chrome ones, 10 would be good.

Anyone need black thumbscrews?

BillA 03-24-2003 08:29 PM

Ben, the foolish clown

to what does the "6" refer ?
to what does the "32" refer ?

so what then can be the applicability of "coarse" and "fine" ?

"Double and triple checked..."
oh my

Whomp 03-24-2003 08:30 PM

Sorry Charlie. I'm getting bulk quotes on Stainless Steel, and plain brass.

Hey, I know what the numbers mean, but if everyone out there refers to them by the terms "coarse" and "fine", I'm going with the flow.

(BTW: 6 is the diameter, and 32 is the tpi, thread per inch).

If you've got that much time on your hands, I'd suggest that you tell it to Tom, and try to reconstruct the face of the person who took the pic, while you're at it.:p

PS: Here's a modder's page, confirming that 6-32 is the correct size for a case screw.

BillA 03-24-2003 08:56 PM

be not concerned by the babbling of fools Ben,
go for accuracy

THG, lol
are you surprised ?

bigben2k 03-24-2003 09:36 PM

Thanks for the push, Bill.

The correct screw size for a floppy/hdd is either #4-40, or M3.

I wonder if Brian knew just how close he was...

Still googling...

Linky.

It appears to be an M3 screw.

BillA 03-25-2003 04:40 PM

bigben2k 03-25-2003 04:57 PM

Now I just have to know.

gogo 03-28-2003 08:54 AM

what's very strange is I was going to be looking up this info over the weekend. Now I even have nice little pictures to put on the containers for my screws.
Thanks BB2K
and thanks BillA for getting him going.

Blackeagle 03-28-2003 10:35 AM

Ben,

I'll just about bet that when you found yourself typing in Tom's as your referance you had to know the response it would bring.:D  :D  :D

BillA may be know for "grumpy" but I sometimes suspect him of just a dry sense of humor. LOL:dome:

bigben2k 03-28-2003 10:52 AM

Oh, I think he's just jealous because of my post count, trying to dismiss it as "mostly off":dome:

I'll have to drop by sometime, to have a beer with him:)

hara 03-28-2003 10:55 AM

Why is his name "Unregistered" ?

Long story?
