Motherboard Question

I am currently in the process of designing a custom plexi cube case wich will be sorta like a lanbox, but will handle mp3 duties for my car as well.... I am currently looking for a motherboard to put in it. I remember seeing an article possibly early this year or late last year which was about custom mini-system in a small plexi cube case. The motherboard was about the size of a normal mousepad ( I think it was 6" X 6") yet it had one pci slot, 2 spots for ram plus a p4 socket (meaning micro atx form factor), none of that mini-itx crap. It had onboard video, plus all the other usual ports that a normal atx board would have. I was hoping to use this same board in my mod. Unfortunately, I lost the link to this article and I dont know the name of the board....could you guys help me out? Thanks.

Just search for mini-itx and you should come up with plenty of small boards...I dont think there are any boards that are smaller unless you try to get one of those micro's like THG reviewed recently. But those are not easy to do much with.

jesus, do you people read posts? I said it wasnt a mini itx....it has a socket for a P4.

Now, onto your original question. Micro-ATX boards are maximally 9.6"*9.6" I believe (I know some are smaller), which is well beyond the size you appear to be looking for. The closest thing to 6"*6" is mini-ITX, which is a VIA spec (coming in at 6.5"*6.5"), and those boards only support VIA C3 processors, etc., etc.

Now the only one's I've seen that near your specs _are_ Shuttle boards in a Flex-ATX formfactor, in particular the FS50 is a P4 motherboard with 2 PCI slots and 2 DDR slots, is 254mm*185mm (10"*7.3") and can be seen here: http://www.shuttleonline.com/spec.php3?model=fs50

The FS51 trades the 650 northbridge for a 651 northbridge, and trades a PCI slot for a 4x AGP slot. Dimensions are the same. It can be seen here: http://www.shuttleonline.com/spec.php3?model=fs51
