Guardian OS units
Not so long ago, the Guardian units were very rare on this forum, but that seems to be changing, so...
I am curious as to how many users/members we have here on the forum that have (or work with) Guardian OS Snap Servers. If you are one of them, speak up and let us know you are here, and maybe even what unit(s) you have. (maybe even if you are still trying to get one) |
Re: Guardian OS units
Me?
Well, I have a 15000, a 4200, and six 4500's (working on getting another one or two). I know David has a few units, so does Eschwa, and Hallis is trying to join the club, but I will let them speak for themselves... |

Here,
4500 w/S10 expansion unit |
Re: Guardian OS units
I have one 4400, two 4000's (snap OS) and I just picked up a Dell 745n I was going to try putting guardian OS on.
My problem is my 4400 is Guardian 2.x and I can't seem to find a 3.x or 4.x upgrade hint hint ;)(usedpc--a-t-gmail-.-c-o-m) |
Re: Guardian OS units
Let us know how that 745 works out.
FYI, the 715N (similar to the 4400) has already been tried by David (blue68f100) with total failure. He says there is an ID chip on the SNAP units that the Guardian OS looks for and fails if it does not find it. He will have to fill you in more beyond that (I did not get details)... |

Re: Guardian OS units
I have a 4500 with 4x750GB drives in it using RAID5 for 1.96TB of usable space. Running Guardian OS v4.2.054

Re: Guardian OS units
I dont have any guardian units yet but have plenty of SnapOS units. My only beef with the Guardian units is that the only one ive seen, which is the 4500 of Davids, apparently puts out some heat. I think for my desktop uses my 2200's work out great. But i DEFINATELY want to get my hands on at least one quardian unit for production and keep it at my brother's house :)

Re: Guardian OS units
Do your self a favor and run spinrite on the 750's if they are Seagate's. You will thank your self later.

P.S. For others reading this, you have to understand that Shane and I have gotten to know each other over time and like to give each other a hard time. No real harm done or intended. |
Re: Guardian OS units

Re: Guardian OS units
I'm with Metal, having a 4400, yet I'm running 3.1.079. Running 4x160gb, but at the price of 500gb drives ($99), I'm thinking about a huge upgrade! But will it work? I've been able to test with a 300gb Maxtor about a year ago, and was able to successfully boot, but why do 300 when you can 500 now?!:laugh2:
I also have a second 4400 that just wont boot. The little heartbeat LED on the face of the unit (amber) blinks on/off, so somehow I think the flash or OS got hosed. :bawling: I have a 14000 somewhere that's gathering dust, along with a couple of 4100's. |
Re: Guardian OS units
I have 3 4400's and 1 4500 with out sleds :(

Re: Guardian OS units
SNAP 4500 with 4x500G Seagates, 4.4.045 OS.
Got the original four 180s (no trays) sitting on the desk blank if anyone has an interest. Maybe 4.4.045 is on them..... |
Re: Guardian OS units
Just picked up a 4400 (the guy advertised it as a 4500 - I was a bit miffed when I got there, negotiated a discount) here in the uk - its running 2.5.033. Not great but it'll do.
Has 4x180 in it currently, need to save up for 4x500 or maybe 4x750 to go in it. Am in the throws of moving 8x250gb drives I had in external firewire boxes into a machine with a 3ware escelade raid5 card for use as a storage box. |
