Ok, I've seen this question too often:
"Which pump should I get?"

For everyone's benefit, I am starting this thread, about the different pumps available, so please add the ones that you use or know of. Try to be specific (i.e. "Eheim 1250", not just "Eheim")

(Use the "list" function, if you have VBB active)

If you can, add the rated flow at 0 head, and the max head.
(i.e. "Eheim 1250, 317 gph@0, ? max head)

Also, throughout this thread, please make a comment about how noisy you think it is.

Hydor Seltz II, 900lph, 10.5m head, 27W
noise: when i stick my ear to it i can perceive a deep "humm". Otherwise it's dead silent.

Eheim 1250: 1200 l/h @ 0m, 2.0m max head, 28W @ 120VAC, inline

"the pump packs a fast rotating heavy impeller, so vibration control was needed. at first i had a very noticeable humm ringing through the case. i made flexible rubber mounts, that fixed that. even after that i still had some vibration traveling down the tubes that resonated with a panel every now & then (making a buzzing noise). i added strips of Dynamat throughout the case to cancel out the negative energy, if you know what i mean. in the end the 1250 noise is not noticeable over my few quiet fans & drives"

gmat, OMGoodness!!! i suppose your pump can really dole out the pressure. 'm now curious how they made the impeller so efficiently to accomplish 10m with only 27W!

BTW, can't seem to find info on the "Seltz II". the closest matching 27W Seltz pump i found gives a 1.95m head & 1200l/h @ 0m (still a nice pump though).

edit: i think it would be helpful if the voltage ratings are also listed here, since 12VDC pump applications are much different than AC pumps, & 220VAC power ratings are different than 115VAC ratings. it might also be worthy to note the type of pump (ie: inline or sump).

Beckett M60AUL: 227lph (60gph) @ 0.3m (1ft), shutoff at 0.76m (2.5ft), 4.6W @ 115V submerged

A super cheap pump I picked up at Home Depot awhile ago, chuggs water nicely (because I haven't seen a "decent" pump yet) through my Aquastealth WB and heatercore (1/2in tubing). Completely quiet, ofcourse :D Getting a pretty good uptime on this thing, has been on for the past 6 month with no problem at all

I cannot hear the pump unless I press it against something and it resonates.

The 1200lph model is just above, in price and performance.

You could place the pump on some kind of foam in the res.

Also my little waterproject is standby for a little period of time....the dealer I was bying from has screwed me! Thats shit when you pay 300 US dollar. So I'll have a refund, and then buy the stuf somewhere els...

But I did have time to try the Ehiem 1250. Man that pump kicks ass! Its 1200l/h in maxhead of 2 meters and it is acceptable quiet out of res.

I love the idea behind this thread. However, without some good headloss information for various components within the watercooling system (resevior, block, any fittings, tubing, etc) I am concerned that this thread is not quite as useful as it could be. Now, don't think that I am trying to be a jerk (and with my first post and all)... not at all. I'd simply love to see a companion thread with various blocks and rads and their measured headloss. In fact, this is what I am trying to do right now, seeing as I am in the process of building a watercooling system myself (and being an engineering student I want to optimize my pump selection).

-About $1-$2 cheaper than MP1200 model
-Hardly gets warm during constant use, almost cold when air is blowing over it
-Probably slightly more reliable than MP1200 due to cooler operation, remember thermal auto-shutoff
-Same fittings as MP1200, remember to plan your fittings
-Noticeably quieter than MP1200, cannot hear from inside case unless ear right up to side (all other components off)
-Same size as MP1200, still compact

In general, I've been happy with the Maxi-Jet family. Currently I'm using the MP900 since I wanted a pump that runs cooler and don't really need the extra flow. My pump is held in with velcro, so the noise is dampened some. Also, I have 3 90-degree turns in my system with a maze2 and 1/2"ID tubing, so I'd say that the pumps can handle resistance pretty well. Hmmm, I wonder if I wrote too much.

Danner 250, nice in general, had to seal RTV. Quiet but quiet warm. Intake cracked during transit at some point, so I fixed it temporarily with electric tape and cable ties

Eheim 1048, excellent pump. Very quiet (set on a thin piece of synthetic foam, fastened thru mounting plate and drilled holes with cable ties. Not as warm as the danner. Smaller than danner

If someone else can chime in with the specs for those two, that'd be great (I can't find them, sorry)

Rounding out the Eheim family (from their website):

Eheim 1048: 600 l/h @ 0m, 1.5m max head, 10W @ 120VAC, inline, 1/2" intake & outlet.

Eheim 1060: 2280 l/h @ 0m, 3.1m max head, 50W @ 120VAC, inline, 1" intake, 3/4" outlet.

Danner Supreme Pondmaster model 3 mag-drive pump. can be run inline or submerged. new models now come with a 3/4" barbed inlet and 1/2" NPT male-threaded outlet. ive got the older one (had a 1/2" NPT female inlet). my pump needed to be sealed to prevent leakage (water seeped from the housing). i dunno how the newer models are tho. specs:

I'd like to recommend the ViaAqua 1300... but it vibrates a little too much for me... but nothing some air bubble wrap didn't fix!

My 2 cents on the issue...
It's also very important for me that the pump is magnetically shielded...does not affect monitor when placed close enough..
I know people rarely (if ever) think about it but my comp is couple of inches away from my monitor and my pump (UKNOWN model) used to affect it (i had to move it outside the box)....
so guys can you please list all the pumps that are magnetically shielded...and which are not...

Okay, I take it back, I'm HATING this damn Via 1300... vibrates like mad, it's awkwardly sized and they sealed the damn fittings with silicone! HTF am I going to remove them safely? Okay I should know the answer, but I'd like suggestions :) And for $22, I guess I can't get much better, but I guess you get what you pay for... I wish I had a danner...

I have the 1048 Ehiem and the Aqua Via 1300--the specs have been posted but my 2 cents--the ehiem is twice as quite--the Via has a hum and a pretty good vibration to it. It is kind of hard to seal , so I will put some goop or sillicon on the threads when I put it in service. ( I bought the bare or box version) If you look at at the factory fittings, they all have a O-ring around the top and about (guess) 1/8 inch slick spot before the threads start. so store bought fittings don't have many threads to catch. Of course for it size and wattage it is a powerfull pump and a lot smaller than a 1048. Also a hell of lot cheaper. My .02

My larger pump is a Seltz L40, rated at 2.5m and 2800L/H (note, not at the same time:)) thay seem to be fairly rare under that name (google search found 20) but they are sold under different brands, mine was called a resun sp-6800.link

(3)flow of 1 of the 1/2" with 1/4" blocked; 980L/H

note, the 2 water blocks used (both DIY) are high flow, each with a similar flow resistance as 2 right angle copper elbows.

"raw pump" means just the pump sitting in the water, no fitting on the inlet.

Oh I almost forgot, it has developed a slight rattle, and vibrates a bit, also has pretty strong EMI, need to keep it about 1.5m away from the monitor, what can I say:D it's a big scary beast of a thing, can't expect it to be perfect:eek:

well, i got some of my stuff thrown together and running in a cardboard box. the Danner isnt shielded, and needs to be kept away from the monitor as it causes the screen to flicker. ill put it into my case later and see how well the 1mm think steel panels help...
