Looking for modded heatercore pics
I'm looking for some good pics of heatercores that had barbs added/replaced, mainly a chevette '86. I've been using reducers with extra lengths of tubing but it's taking up precious room in my case. :(

Not exactly what you're looking for, but if you start with the core for a '71 mercury montego, you can just cut the tubing off before the bend (or just use it as-is if the bends go where you want)

The problem with the chevette hc is that the inlet and outlet are different sizes. One is 3/4" and the other is 5/8".

Right - which is the attraction of the heater core from the '71 mercury montego (no idea whay it isn't more popular than the chevette one - maybe it's a couple of $$ more...)

Nice shroud and paint job quicksilverXP, you make it?
Does it matter how a heatercore is mounted in ones case? I mean it's orientation... up, down, sideways, upsidedown etc etc..?? or does it have to remain upright. |
You should mount it with the inlet/outlet side up so that air won't get trapped in it.

6"x6.125"x2" inlet and outlet both 5/8" (beaded a bit larger, but 1/2"ID silicone tubing has no problem going right over them (see picture above. Mounts very nicely with the Coolingworks shroud. Quote:
If I'm using a waterblock, and if it's possible, I try to orient it so that the outlet is higher (or at least no lower) than the inlet (obviously paying attention to things like making sure the inlet is over the CPU contact area if the WB is designed that way). Again, just trying to follow "common sense" - which may actually be nonsensical. Oh wait - you weren't addressing that one to me - nevermind... |
I would have gone with the 77 Bonneville Heatercore if I had the room in the front of my case. The 86 Chevette heatercore fit nicely so that what I used.
Now if I can just get the rest of my watercooling equipement I'll be all set. |
