Improved impeller for eheim anyone?
I've heard that it is possible to get a new impellor for the eheim pump that should really boost the performance. A dude on another forum said he'd seen it when he worked at an aquarium shop a good while back but he didn't mention where and what it was called. He mentioned something about shovels on the impeller ... i know what im descriping here is at best a very weak description but some of you may have heard of it..

Considering the way an impellor works I don't think "shovels" will work but maybe a spiral will - donno though: (Paint-o-matic)

Jep, that is the purpose, but as there is no air.... It supposed to give some extra pressure.

The impeller with all the spiky things is designed to chop big air bubbles into a butt load of tiny air bubbles.
I used to balls deep in the aquarium hobby. How a protien skimmer works is by incorporating alot of air into the water. The tiny air bubbles have a slight negative charge to them and all the disolved organic solids have a slight positive charge to them. Opposites attract, so the disolved organics stick to the bubbles and float to the top, eventually rising to the top of the foam head and spilling over into a collection cup. Who would have thought you could mechanicaly seperate disolved solids from water? Skimmer efficency is a function of bubble size and contact time with the water. That impeller will have a very low flow rate and not much head capability at all. |
you could be right...
I was reading in some aquarium forum, and there they where writing that it improved the pressure, but from the design, I can not see how. |
