Mini Fridge Compressor Change

I am removing a compressor from a mini fridge and using it to replace the compressor in another mini fridge. Both fridge's compressors use R134a refrigerant. My question is, how would I go about charging the system once the new compressor is in place and all the pipes are sealed? I also have access to a vacuum pump.

Re: Mini Fridge Compressor Change

If the fridge does indeed use r134a, which I think most do, I would pick up a can of the stuff at Wal Mart in the automotive department which contains no oil or leak sealer. Should be able to fill it with that for a few bux. Just grab the thing you'd connect to the car's AC line and snip the end off. Use a hose clamp to secure the line to the fill port on the fridge, fill the system with the proper amount, crimp the copper fill line, disconnect the gas bottle and braze the end of the pipe you crimped.

... Or $50 - $100 buys a brand new mini / dorm fridge.
