I made that res with 1/4" lexan. I used a ring saw to cut it. Right now, the Mag350 sits on some foam strips to help with any vibration that may occur. Black Ice extreme is above with a 120mm panaflow. When I finish, I'll put it in case mods, but I wanted you guys to critique my res mainly.

The res has an outlet in the bottom, inlet in the top, and a fill barb up top.

Damn thats cool, but how did you attach the barbs? I wouldn't want to tap and die 1/4 inch plastic, did yours work out ok?

The reason I ask is because I've got some 2in clear PVC that would work like that really well.

You'll notice that the threads of the barb is gone. I used the ring saw to remove them. Takes about 5 min per barb. Ring saws are great, but you never wanna break the ring, it costs 75 bucks to replace, because it's a diamond impregnated metal ring.


All I did to secure them was take my Ace Marine Epoxy, and let it setup for about 10min, to make it less runny. Applied it to the barb, and pushed it on. I drilled the hole out with a 1/2" spade bit. Which makes the hole too small for the barb to fit through. So I used this conic "hole widener thingy" to ream out the hole. I would just keep doing it until the barb would just fit through with some force.

So basically, the barb sticks through, but the hex part of it sits on the back of the plexi. Where the epoxy is.

Nice res! I especially like that the return pipe has plenty of headroom, so there's no chance of the whirlpool effect causing lots of bubbles.

man i need to get a table saw or something so i can cut stright pieces lol (scoring and sanding are such a pain).

Hell, if you want, I'll cut/assemble a res for ya. Just dimentions and barb sizes/locations would be fine.

I, personally, am not so fond of large setups, but I agree, that looks really great. Just that it'll probably gonna sound like a zen water fountain if not a waterfall, unless you keep the res filled all the way to the top.

Nice job! I made a clear reservoir and stuck laser lights under it. Not for everyone but I like it.

Lexan is easier to drill and tap than plexi, but it can be done and not leak.

When I first made a reservoir out of lexan I used a water proof epoxy and it started to leak at one corner after a couple of months. It wasn't a marine epoxy though so I hope you don't have that happen to you.

I made the second reservoir out of plexi and used ISP Weld On # 16 cement. Won't fill gaps but creates a chemical bond.

When I get my Tygon, yes.

But a problem has arose. I installed all my blocks, and had it running. Figured out that my clamps weren't all on very well, so I had to re adjust those, to stop some leaks. But I was still loosing water.

Now I come to find the foam under my pump is wet. Low and behold, my Mag350 is leaking out the seal like everyone said it would.... :cry:

So I'll seal that up, and reattach everything when I get my Tygon in. Then I'll run it for a few days for leak testing, then I'll put my system in and take pictures.

lol. some plumbers goop or RTV silicone sealant will fix that right up! id go for the permatex water pump housing RTV silicone, since it only costs 2 dollars from any auto-parts store.
