Johnson pump deal?
Going through my junkmail, and actually following up on some of the interesting tidbits...

Iv´e got that pump inn my rig now.
I´m ok pleased with it, but one thing you all need too look out for is the heat it generates, iv´e allready had too, retrn one because it´died on my, sniff... but a little fan that is blowing over it at all times keeps it under controle :) The pressure is good, but the flown rate isn´t the best. Looking at specs looks like unmarked CM-30, but what does 1.5 PSI translate to as far as head?, is this good?(I hope):shrug:
/edit never mind read the other thread and so 3ft, 356 GPH. now to figure out when to add it to the new setup. |
1.5 psi is about 3 1/2 feet (41.5 inches to be exact), and that's not the maximum...

It's not likely that pump behaves like an inductive load anyway.
More likely it behaves like a brushless DC fan and puts pulses of current through the windings. Hard to say how high the instantaneous current draw might get. It might be a good idea to put a fat capacitor in parallel with one of these. |
Maybe because it's on the 12v line, it won't affect system stability.
I like the cap idea. Any idea what rating? Nexxo's pump draws 12 volts, and has a max power rating of 26 Watts, for a max amperage of ~2.2 amps. I know it's useless without knowing the RPM. A quick chart gives these flow/pressure ratings: 3.3 feet @ 6.9 gpm 6.6 feet @ 5.2 gpm 9.8 feet @ 2.4 gpm Max pressure: 5 psi: that's 11 1/2 feet, or 3.5 meters. Max flow is 30 l/m, that's 7.9 gpm, or 474 gph. That's a good pump!!! |

I'm picking one up: can't take it anymore! PS: the housing is rated for max 2.5 bars, which means it can handle a few of these connected in series. |
I decided to pick one up. For $30 it was worth the gamble and I still have a few regular pumps around for a backup just in case it doesn't work out.

I'm going to have my brother pick up a few. He wants to build a watercooled dually in a briefcase (approx. 3U sized) with a foldout LCD monitor, one power plug, and a completely silent design. This pump would aid in keeping the size down.

The pump is 6 inches long, and max 3 inches high. The diameter of the housing appears to be a bit more than 2 inches. |
@ Bigben: darn, you beat me to it! :p No probs, it is a pump worth mentioning.
The CM30P7-1 is indeed outstanding. Built like a tank. Like the other Johnson (a.k.a Jabsco), it too gets a bit hot during normal operation (about 53 degrees C). Quote:

Got my pumps. VERY Compact for the power. :D
Planning to get the WW mk 2 from DTEK. How does the idea of the pump being suspended w/about 6" of tube feeding the inlet of the above wb sound as far as a good idea. Would it be worth it? :shrug: block would only be about 15" above pump in present system. |
