Need help plumbing new rig

For my new system, I decided to go with a more conventional watercooling setup: everything goes inside.
My goals: 1. Portable 2. Quiet 3. High performance The parts I have selected for this are: Case: Lian Li PC-60 Radiator: Lytron 4120 3/8" Stainless steel tubing forged into copper fins. http://www.lytron.com/reg/files/2003...gers_44-51.pdf (Registration required) Fans: 2 X Nidec Alpha 5 A30122 120mm AC fans pushing 105 CFM each. Will be controlled by ceiling-fan type controller. http://www.nidec.com/ta450acb.html Pump: Custom Sea Life Velocity T-3 Titanium centrifugal pump, max head 28 ft, 13 GPM @ 0' head. Operating noise: 30dBA. http://www.customsealife.com/NewFiles/velocity.html Waterblock: ??? Possibly a White Water block, but it doesn't really matter at this point. http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...threadid=95955 GPU Waterblock: Gemini GF4 waterblock 3/8" fittings and a spiral design. This is still up in the air; I might swap in Cathar's new GPU block if it goes into production soon. Cathar's: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...hreadid=123829 Tubing: Tygon or Clearflex Cooling fluid: Distilled water with Water Wetter With all the parts collected ( I have all except the pump, which is on its way), the challenge now is fitting it all into the case. I plan to mount the radiator to the bottom of the case with a large vent cut in the bottom. To make sure there is enough airflow, I will put casters on the case to elevate it a few inches off the ground. This vent will be an exhaust; the fans will blow into the radiator for more turbulent airflow. I will post some layout designs as I make them. Here is the first (Note: GPU block is not included in this design). Some issues with this layout: Possible conflict between pump and video card. Cramped hosing between pump and radiator. No airtrap / fill line / drain valve. |

Here is what I am leaning towards right now.
It is the same basic configuration, except a clear acrylic reservoir, probably rectangular, is mounted directly onto the pump inlet. The outlet hoses from the waterblock then go directly into the reservoir. This gives me a fill point and an air trap, but also adds weight and consumes space. There is still the problem of the drain valve, but I can't think of a place to put it. The connection between the pump and radiator would be ideal, if it weren't so tight already. |
Just use a tee at the rad intake, and drill a hole through the bottom of the case. Plug the hole.
