Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

It is my understanding that Snap OS 3.4.805 is the last free copy of Snap OS that is available to users. Can somone please get in touch with me. I acquired an old snap 2000 and would love to add some large hd support. Thanks.

jacowhee & rangerone,

What is your current bios, HW and OS version. Both the 2000 and 4000 use software raid, and i think can support large disk. I thought I read that it took 23 hr to build a raid1 on a 2000 with a 200gig hd. You are right the v3.4.805 does support LBA 48bit.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

software 2.3.417
hardware 2.0.1
bios 2.0.282

Again any help would be great

SnappedUP, if you are already at v4 backing up may not be possiable.
What model of snap to you have. Only the BootStrap loaders can be reversed.

What are you trying to update. There is one model that has problems.

At one time SnapAppliance allowed free updates to registerd users.

It's a 4000, ver 2.0.1.
Am I right to assume that v4 doesn't support LBA 48bit.
Ideally I'd like to through some large drives in.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

4000 are better units

USing v3 and v4 you can use larger drives due to the hardware supporting LBA 48-Bit

Whereas 4100's, noo way, not a cat in hells chance!

V4 does support large disk.

the problems lays with a promise controller used in the 4100. It has a bug that requires a bios fix that snap failed to issue a fix on. They want you to buy newer units.

The 4100 are faster units due to the deciated promise controller (4). But with a max of 137gig drives. Hardware RAID

The 4000 uses a std ide controllers (2), with m/s or cs configuration. Has no limit on drive size, buts need extra ram to handle the larger drives. Software RAID

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Do you know the ram type and max size it will take? for the 4000?

Hey there. I've acquired an old Quantum M4100 and am looking for the full 4.0.855 upgrade that will allow me to install the 4.0.860 patch. If someone can direct me towards it, I'd appreciate it.

My M4100 reports this version info:

Model 4000 series
Software 3.4.803 (US)
HW 2.2.1
Bios 2.4.437

Well if you are thinking you are going to get large disk support your SOL. 4100 are not supported.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Does anyone have SnapOS v3.4.805? I could really use a copy, I'm on 3.4.803 and would like to try the 48-bit LBA support. I've upgraded the memory from 32MB to 128MB and there seems to be an improvement (subjective.) I plan to try 2x250GB drives if I can get the OS upgraded.

[EDIT] I got what I needed, thanks! I successfully upgraded to OS v4 (a tense moment) and plan to test a 250GB drive when it comes in tomorrow. If that works, I'm thinking about purchasing a 500GB drive and testing that. An 1TB Snap Server 2000 would be cool. [/EDIT]

It's a Snap Server 2000, I believe v2 hardware (both drives are set to master & ata133 drives work) and v2.0.0 bios. I don't have the exacts since the unit isn't online right now.

[EDIT] I have a: 2000 series / sw 4.0.830 (US) / hw 2.0.0 / serial 48xxx / bios 2.0.282

and a 250GB drive works! I'm stoked. The total capacity was recgonized as 237,118MB. [/EDIT]

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Hopefully someone can help me out. I am looking for a copy of Snap OS 3.4.085 to update a:
Quantum Snap 2000
HW ver 2
Bios ver 2.?
Current OS 2.0.729

I understand (only from reading the forum) that 3.4.085 is the last free rekease. I have no objection to paying for ver 4.0 once I verify that the unit will work with large drives bc the end game is to install it in a system running Server2003.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. byoung17@cogeco.ca

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Do you know how to connect to the server? No drives are required.
The detail info can be found by clicking on the snapappliance logo.

If you need instructions on how to reset the snap, let me know and I will send it to you.

The os is stored in flashram. For testing, install 1 drive (capacity does not matter, smaller the better for this exercise) in the front position, and set the drive to master. Power up. The snap will initialize the drive, format and install to OS. This takes about 10 minutes then you can reconnect.
