Cheap system

I have built my first water cooled system. It is designed to work in a non overclocked system and features the following spec-

Athlon XP 2600 (333MHZ)
MSI KN2 mobo (nforce 2)
Geforce 4 4600 GPU
Twin Voodoo 2 GPU's in SLI mode (for old glide games)
Aver media digital TV tuner card
1GB PC2700 memory
80GB Seagate Barracuda drive
DVD ROM drive
CD R/W drive

The water cooled set-up

10 scratchbuilt water blocks parallel fed from 15 mm copper pipe manifolds by 8mm PVC pipe.

Voodoo 2 cards feature 3 waterblocks per card fed via their own 8mm copper manifolds (each block parallel fed to act as one waterblock).

Other waterblocks- 1 CPU, 1 chipset, 1 Geforce GPU, 1 Hardrive plate. All copper and brass construction, nothing fancy- built from scrap left over from old central heating system.

1 Ford transit heater core radiator. Copper and brass construction. Modified to accept a header tank/resovoir. Twin 90mm cooling fans.

1 Maxijet 1000 powerhead pump.

Initial tests demonstarted that even a blowlamp couldn't heat up the CPU block when water was pumped through.

System is virtually silent in operation.

Total cost of system, about £30.

Currently finishing off case mods.

Cheers

Andy

Sounds cool, definately a fan of the home-built jobs out there, now lets just see some pics. :-D

Yes ... pictures please...

Okay, here are some pictures of the system at the moment. Still finishing off the modifications to the cage, which is pictured in primer awating a coat of flat black.

System is shown without pipes, but it's easy to see the manifolds and the holes where the pipes will enter into the part of the case where the mobo lives.

Pump isn't fully fastened in yet-which will sit on a soft foam block to prevent vibrations resonating through the cage.

Chipset cooler isn't fitted on mobo yet (want to test the board before I modify it!) but I've placed a picture of the waterblock.

Fan shroud under construction (twin 90mm with PWM control).

Processor held on with own design clamp. Designed to help prevent overtightening, hence no crushed cores!

Geforce GPU block held on with four small 8BA bolts with insulated washers.

Voodoo 2 card blocks glued on with a very thin film of 5 minute epoxy- nothing fancy like Arctic Silver (waste of money IMHO).

Radiator mounted at an angle to help natural convection of heat through radiator.

Modified transit heater core, copper and brass construction, self built header tank from copper, soft soldered onto the end.

Cheers

Andy
