Going through my junkmail, and actually following up on some of the interesting tidbits...

I found a source for that Johnson pump some of us have been dreaming about:

At $29.99, it's hard to beat!

bigben2k 05-12-2003 09:25 PM

Err ok... there's still 416 in stock, how come?

Here's the thread with the details as to why it's such an amazing pump. (Sorry Nexxo!)

jaydee 05-12-2003 09:58 PM

Well if a certain pump doesn't arive soon I might have to look into this one. Might look into it anyway. :D

Pritorian 05-13-2003 03:56 AM

Iv´e got that pump inn my rig now.

I´m ok pleased with it, but one thing you all need too look out for is the heat it generates, iv´e allready had too, retrn one because it´died on my, sniff... but a little fan that is blowing over it at all times keeps it under controle :)

The pressure is good, but the flown rate isn´t the best.

All inn all, and ok pump for the size, but not for the cheap pepole out there... ;)

-Edit-
The price here inn norway for this pump is about 100$ so you get it CHEAP!

YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SPEND TOO MUCH MONEY

remind me what does not self priming mean. Just before i buy it

btw bigben2k did you buy one?

mad mikee 05-13-2003 08:08 AM

At that Price I'll take 2!!!

Interesting thing when I ordered and added myself as new customer, your info was there, Ben? Not there anymore (and thankfully neither is mine:)

bigben2k 05-13-2003 08:40 AM

I think I fixed it, thanks!

It must have setup an ID on the session: I entered my info after posting the link!

Well, I guess some of you know who I am ;). I just hope no one ordered one on my account

mad mikee 05-13-2003 08:46 AM

More Info?

Looking at specs looks like unmarked CM-30, but what does 1.5 PSI translate to as far as head?, is this good?(I hope)

/edit never mind read the other thread and so 3ft, 356 GPH. now to figure out when to add it to the new setup.

bigben2k 05-13-2003 08:50 AM

1.5 psi is about 3 1/2 feet (41.5 inches to be exact), and that's not the maximum...

joemac 05-13-2003 08:51 AM

Wow junk mail that was useful  What next ???

"not self priming" means that if you run a hose from the inlet to a bucket, it's not going to suck up the air, so that it can run the water.

No I didn't pick one up yet, but I'm so tempted! I don't think Radius would go well with it. I'm also hesitant in putting an inductive load on my PSU.

For more power, I might pick up two of them, but my budget doesn't allow that frivolous expense right now ;)

so your system doesn't have any fans or other components with motors in them, like harddrives, cdrom's ect...

;)

It's not likely that pump behaves like an inductive load anyway.

More likely it behaves like a brushless DC fan and puts pulses of current through the windings. Hard to say how high the instantaneous current draw might get. It might be a good idea to put a fat capacitor in parallel with one of these.

bigben2k 05-13-2003 10:48 AM

Maybe because it's on the 12v line, it won't affect system stability.

I like the cap idea. Any idea what rating? Nexxo's pump draws 12 volts, and has a max power rating of 26 Watts, for a max amperage of ~2.2 amps. I know it's useless without knowing the RPM.

In the mean time, I found a spec sheet for this pump:
http://www.johnson-pump.com/JPMarine...IB-CM10_30.pdf (PDF, 20 pages)

Here's the flow curve, for all three variations:
http://www.johnson-pump.com/JPMarine...10_30_c090.htm

The good news is that this Johnson pump is the heavier model that Nexxo described, the CM30P7-1.

A quick chart gives these flow/pressure ratings:
3.3 feet @ 6.9 gpm
6.6 feet @ 5.2 gpm
9.8 feet @ 2.4 gpm

Max pressure: 5 psi: that's 11 1/2 feet, or 3.5 meters.
Max flow is 30 l/m, that's 7.9 gpm, or 474 gph.
That's a good pump!!!

I'd guess something like a 2200uF, 16V, aluminum electrolytic.

Without seeing waveforms on a scope though, it's a pretty rough guess.

bigben2k 05-13-2003 11:27 AM

I'm googled out, for an RPM.

I'm picking one up: can't take it anymore!

PS: the housing is rated for max 2.5 bars, which means it can handle a few of these connected in series.

Syncore 05-13-2003 01:55 PM

I decided to pick one up. For $30 it was worth the gamble and I still have a few regular pumps around for a backup just in case it doesn't work out.

thx for the reply got 2! :evilaugh: :evilaugh:

airspirit 05-14-2003 02:21 PM

I'm going to have my brother pick up a few. He wants to build a watercooled dually in a briefcase (approx. 3U sized) with a foldout LCD monitor, one power plug, and a completely silent design. This pump would aid in keeping the size down.

bigben2k 05-14-2003 02:39 PM

The pump is 6 inches long, and max 3 inches high. The diameter of the housing appears to be a bit more than 2 inches.

nexxo 05-14-2003 02:42 PM

@ Bigben: darn, you beat me to it! :p No probs, it is a pump worth mentioning.

The CM30P7-1 is indeed outstanding. Built like a tank. Like the other Johnson (a.k.a Jabsco), it too gets a bit hot during normal operation (about 53 degrees C).

... and that is exactly why I mounted mine where I did... just behind the Rad fan, so it picks up some of the airflow, but without obstructing it.

What waterblocks did you use there?

nexxo 05-14-2003 03:12 PM

This one. There's some threads on them in this forum.

mad mikee 05-16-2003 10:17 PM

silly question

Got my pumps. VERY Compact for the power. :D

Planning to get the WW mk 2 from DTEK.

How does the idea of the pump being suspended w/about 6" of tube feeding the inlet of the above wb sound as far as a good idea. Would it be worth it? block would only be about 15" above pump in present system.
