More block madness

Here's my latest creation. It is designed on a much smaller scale but still with limited restriction. Water is going to be in and out of their quickly, with good velocity and fairly decent surface area for such a small space. What does everyone think?

koslov 07-19-2002 12:40 AM

Now that's just bizarre...

Have you mounted it yet?

gone_fishin 07-19-2002 12:46 AM

Not yet. I still need to finnish the bottom with a few mill bit passes at the edges and lap it.

Sanjuro 07-19-2002 12:56 AM

wow amazing, very good job :) the top looks like it wants to crack though with those angled barbs though

Thanks, the top is made of bulletproof glass, not planning on it to ever crack:)

Can you get a closer top-down shot? The center looks like a volcano... is that what you were going for?

gmat 07-19-2002 08:51 AM

/me wonders: How on earth did you make that ? TNT ? Nitro ? Rail gun ? Looks like this "modern art" stuff (you know, compression sculpture)...

MeltMan 07-19-2002 09:02 AM

It reminds me of a little volcano or mountain or something. quite scarry. :D

Was that a dremel creation? Maybe just a big grinder?

Ive always had an idea for your blocks, so I'll just spill it now. Just for sake of testing, I was thinking of a hole drilled straight down into the "mountain top" with four holes drilled into the sides of the "mountain" so that a small amount of watter would be forced inside the copper comming out the bottom further turbulating the already turbular water :D

Fixittt 07-19-2002 11:55 AM

simply madness!

I bet that sucker has alot of time behind it.

I only see one minor issue that may not be an issue at all.

We as a comunity are struggling to get all this cooling hardware into smaller and smaller cases. Do U think that with having those outlets like that would case kink problems with the processor being so close to the power supply? Wont that have to be a big hard bend for the tubing?

Just inquiring.

Still... mad block man. NICE!

Bigger pics please!

Thanks,
There's always the "battleship configuration" if space is a problem:)
Here's a few more pics, no more till it's done though:D

decodeddiesel 07-19-2002 01:14 PM

it's deffiniatly an original design, looks like it would induce very turbulant coolant, and should have good flow. Nice job.

morphling1 07-19-2002 06:21 PM

Damn, that looks totaly mean :D
Great job g_f ... Bigger pics !!!

Very close to testing. I have two version tops. This will work with P4 or AMD all in one.
More pics? Hows this:D

Myrd 07-19-2002 06:34 PM

Mmmm purdy

Bignuts 07-19-2002 06:43 PM

OMFG

That block of yours is almost EXACTLY like a design I was making!

So how are the temps?

Boy, did you save me a lot of time.....

Talk is cheap, post us a pic:D

Testing very soon;)

Fixittt 07-20-2002 03:27 PM

well the pics are purdy, But I dont understand something. maybe U can make me understand.

ok the pics with just the center hose barb..... I can see how the water gets in..... thur the hose barb... im a geniusse didnt U know. but I cant make out what the fogged plastic is around the hose barb, and where anything could exit.....

Fixittt 07-20-2002 03:29 PM

U know what.... im a moron. after looking back at the pics I understand now.

the fogged plastice is the machined part of the top. U know if U use wd-40 while machining, it will help make it clear. use alot, cause it looks like it was melting on U when U were machining it.

bigben2k 07-20-2002 03:52 PM

Are the outlet barb mounts part of the top, or are they seperate pieces? If seperate, how to you put them together?

I have made a compromise on the angle for the barbs. It is drying now and I will test it tonight. Here's a pic of the final, fully functional (yes I even lapped it) waterblock, what do you think?

Fixitt, you will not be able to see that part of the block when looking at it so I didn't have much concern over the see through aspect there.

Yes they are seperate. They are cut and tapped and welded in place with a two part plastic welding compound which is waterproof, withstands temps of -40C to +200C, and +3000psi bond strength. The piece I tested the compound with has been hammered on repeatedly to try to get the joint to seperate and it has held up strong.

Khledar 07-20-2002 07:09 PM

"plastic welding compound" care to share more info? Possibly the name :p
