2200 & R5
Looking for a how-to on enabling Raid 5 on a 2200.
Thanks In Advance! Alvin |
Re: 2200 & R5
Sorry, but RAID5 requires 3 or more drives. Unless you modify the 2200 for 4 drives instead of 2, this is a no-can-do...

Yup, what he said. Raid 1, 0, or JBOD only in the 2200. Dissapointing i know. Sell it to me and buy yourself a 4100. :) Shane |
Re: 2200 & R5
Depending on the MB you have to make a mod/chance to the BIOS setting. Then replace the cables to the drives. There is only 1 version of MB that I think this works on. There is a company that bought old Snap Parts. They sell the one that can be used for both. Need to find which HW version it is.
Don't recomend in, unless you don't mind turning it in to a DOOR STOP if something goes wrong. Many have tried to turn the 1X00 models in to 2000. I thing only one was successful. |

Re: 2200 & R5
You need to make some debug cms to the bios for this conversion.
All of the conversion data I have is for converting a 2000 v2 (PN 70715023) to a 4000. I do not have a clue on what will happen if a 2200 is used. You may need to use a larger power supply to handle the extra load. There is one timer that soon as you change the model type it will auto reboot. I am not sure which one it is. I think it is "reboot". Once you make the model change it has to reboot for it to work. I think if you issue "reboot 0" turns auto reboot off. "reboot" with out any parameters reboots in 1 sec. I would like to know what hardware version you are at before you make the changes. PREFORM THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS AT YOU OWN RISK, NOT RESPONSEABLE FOR DAMAGE. Once you are logged in and to the bebug section. 1. bios unlock 2. bios model 2 ( once you issue this it reboot unless turned off) 3. bios lock 4. reboot 5 ( if you disabled reboot) This is all it needs to convert a 2200 into a 4000 if every thing works correctly. Once the changes have been made, I recommend reload the OS. Good Luck, Please keep us updated with your progress, success or not. |

Re: 2200 & R5
It's a shame to destroy a perfectly good working 2200. If he would wait for a few more months he could install 1T drives and have more space. Even with raid 5 You still have a 1T LIMIT.

Re: 2200 & R5
Besides, more drives means more money. I agree with blue...get yourself some of the new 750GB or 1TB drives coming out, since you can't get past 1TB with ANY snap server drive config, RAID 0, 1, or 5.

Re: 2200 & R5
True enough and I cannot disagree, but my recommendation was based on his desire for a RAID5 setup...

Re: 2200 & R5
It all depends on what size drives are in the unit and OS.
There are several users here on this forum in need of one. Shane, djontz, phoenix32. |

Re: 2200 & R5
You started this thread so you can use it, or Start a New Thread.
Know a little about a FreeNAS.com that is being developed. |
Re: 2200 & R5
Drop Hallis a PM, he's probably most likely to take it off your hands
There are a lot of limitations in with NASLite, but FreeNas seems very goood |
Re: 2200 & R5
I got a PM and replied, And found the answer to the question in this thread after the fact. lol. I'll shoot him an offer right now.

Re: 2200 & R5
LOL, Shane told me what he offered for the 2200. I watch ebay and so forth a lot. Given what I have seen there and the hassles that go with it, in my opinion he is a fool if he doesn't take it...

Re: 2200 & R5
Is it a done deal then? I am interested, but I am not going to start a bidding war here...

2200 For Sale
I am asking $300.00 for the unit. It's in excellent condition complete with original box, manuals, and software.
I bought this unit from a local computer store (well 30 miles away) this week. See the link below: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3936&rd=1&rd=1 If you guys feel that I paid to much to begin with and asking too much, no problem. I am not in a situation where I have to sell the 2200 to purchase a 4000. Thanks for looking |

Yep It's wrong. I dont know who put the Wiki together but i'll see if i can edit that out. Raid 5 requires 3 or more disks.
