Looking for a large passive heatsink for chipset...

I am looking for a large passive heatsink (4-6" tall)for my northbridge. All my fans in my system are 120mm. They move hella air with little noise. My 3 are quiter than my coolermaster 40mm fan. There is mass airflow through the area where the northbridge is. I can use as epoxy to attach.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

just buy a cheapo HSF from Radio Shack or compUSA, or take one from an old P1 or something and just hack it to the size you need, lap it, and epoxy it down.

what 120mm fans are you using?

dynatron thin fin al heatsink, nice and small. if it doesn't fit, just cut it in half or something

I am using watercooling kev. But I still have good airflow through the case. I use all Panaflo fans in there. I have one 120mm H1A on the bottom of case blowing cool air in. I have another 120mm H1A attached to my heatercore, blowing air out the front of the case. I have an 80mm L1A sucking air out the back in the usual spot near cpu. I have a 120mm L1A sucking air out the top of the case, where all my cdrom and hard drives are. Most fans are run at 5-7 volts. The hard drive is still loudest in piece in the case. I have just a standard heatsink on my nb now and want more cooling but none of those little shit fans.

every thread in this forum prolly has someone saying forget air get water

I'm using a modified FOP32 (trimmed to fit past the caps) on my northbridge. YS-TECH 60x60x25 fan @ 5V on it, VERY quiet, cools nicely. You won't get anything that'll take more than about a 60mm fan on most northbridges due to the caps sadly. It could possibly run passive but as the fins run horizontally I like a bit of airflow to stop them trapping hot air.

if you had the fop32 the other way, the output air could help cool the back of your graphics card

Hows about this one?

Zalman supersink :D

Well I could but my gpu hits around 30 under load so I'm not to worried on gfx card heating... it's got an 80x50mm heatsink with a 7V 80mm fan blowing on the front. PCI slots, pfft they're for losers! :D

zalman super sink??
wtf is that ugly thing?

kitchen sink
zalman sink

hmm

Butcher 01-05-2002 08:39 AM

Yeah! Epoxy a kitchen sink on - plenty of surface area :D

Brad 01-07-2002 09:38 PM

just put the plug in, and turn the water on

Oh yes there was the other slight problem that the FOP32 doesn;t fit the other way, it's somewhat reactangular since it's trim with the dremel. ;)

Brad 01-13-2002 06:32 PM

hehe. I know that I have measured it up on my vp6, I can have my waterblocks in, and a pal6035 on the chipset, all at once
