Mobo Question
 

I have something similar to this in the hardforum...

I will be upgrading my PC in a few weeks & For grins, I am looking into an AMD/MB combo.

I don't really care for ASUS, but I like ABIT. How good is the Abit KT7-Raid board?
How about OCing potential?

Yup, the KT7-RAID is a good board, I love mine.

Overclocking on the board is great, connect the bridges and the board is ready to oc, in the BIOS that is, no dip switches like on some other boards (Asus A7V). The only problem I don't like about the board is the limiting factorof voltage, only goes to 1.85V, but if you have the balls to solderyou can up that to about 2.1V.

It might cost a bit more than the other boards but I personally think it is well worth it http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif

You can do it yourself, go to edit/delete thread and you will see in the upper left corner you can do it yourself ...

I fount the abit KT7-100raid w AMD 750
cpu for 249 at Fry's electronics.... LOL

is this the same MB?? they also have 256 PC100 for $128 <generic> not a bad price. Last stick I bought from tham was labeled pc100, buy the chips were pc133.

WinXP wanted to delete his post.

That is prolly the same board, just make sure it is the RAID version before you buy it.

The KT7-RAID usually goes for about $150 and the 750 will usually go for about $100 so as long as they work it is a decent deal.

I like the features this board has... The down side is that I will not be using the RAID option, that will be dead weight for me.

Now can someone recommend an excellent cooler for it?

It all depends on what you want to spend and how much noise you can put up with.

I have an FOP38, with a Delta on it (i.e. - loud bastard) If you are willing to put up with a lot of niose I would reccomend it a lot of sites have said it is the best and mine is keeping my t-bird nice and cool, though water will soon take that over. If you don't want too much noise the FOP38's little brother the FOP32-1 is good, they are the same heatsink just the 38 has a delta and the 32 has a slower fan (Y. S. Tech) it won't get as cool but it is still pretty good.

Kewl!! I thought that it was going to be more expensive than that. Noise is not a prob, right now I am listening to the hummm of 2 - 120mm intakes =) my Other PC has 2 - 120mm intake/Exhaust, 2 90mm intakes over the CPU and AGP. So noise uh Bring it on!!!

Have you experienced any AMD fickleness when it comes to RAM. One guy at a local shop told me that the AMD was kinda sensitive to the quality of ram you have in the system. I like the generic stuff, hey it's cheap and I have smoke a few quality ones, SIMMS though. I'd really hate to replace the stuff I currently have.

I though after you get to 2.12V there is something in the motherboard taht shuts down? Like it wont boot! I think they are pulling your chain there but it might get to 2.1V

Hmmm dunno! I'm one of the lazy ones if the work has been done and the price is fair...

WHO do you recommend buying this Mobo from and do they have a Moded version, so I dont have to try tweeking myself.

They seem like a good place to buy from just send them an e-mail and see what they say to that? I don't know of any other sites taht sell them, good luck finding them, I am starting to wonder if voltage modification can be done through the BIOS and editing it.
