Yeah, that was the bench testing... :)

(2) 172 watt (24V-11.3A max) 40mm Pelts
(2) S-320-24 PSUs
(2) Maze2 waterblocks
(2) E-1250 pumps (hot and cold side)
(2) BIE radiators in parallel
(2) 120mm Panaflo M1A fans
Maze3 waterblock

with 22 deg C ambient air
0 deg C idle (CPU block)
11 deg C full load (60 watts)

And that is whith no peltiers on the CPU?

Woudn't you get way below zero if you could cool the pelts with chilled water?

I was thinking I would do this with one 226W. pelt on the CPU and one ... or two 226 watters chillin the water.

I would also be using 2 Black Ice Extremes with 2 Ehiem 1250.

I was thinking of getting a aluminum block made specially for this ... would copper make a big difference for this?

I did this mostly as an experiment... :) It's a lot of equipment and $$$ for what you get. Pelt chillers just aren't very efficient IMHO. You get a lot more bang (cooling) for your buck by mounting the Pelt onto the CPU (with a cold plate) and watercooling the hot side.

Yes, if I was to cool the hot side of the Pelts with chill water then the cold side would go well below freezing.

In final form, two auto heater core radiators with shrouds are a better choice (less expensive and greater surface area) than the two BIE rads I used.

As I'm sure you already know, copper is much better at conducting heat than aluminum - so "better" yes. Enough "better" to offset the cost and hassle of machining... can't answer that for you. That's the main reason I went with two commercial waterblocks for the Pelt sandwich.

temp probe is underneath the CPU.

no insulation what so ever........ so ya, properly insulated and having the TEC on say 15v to 18v adjustable, should get -15ºC if not colder.... full load

WOW, I'm gettin chilly. I have heard but never seen a pelt in action. I'm new to wawa but as soon as get some time on that I'll be checkin you guys out.:drool:

Thanks. Not entirely sure, since I didn't have very good contact between my temperature probe and the TEC. I can tell you that I've gotten -1ºC CPU temperatures as measured in the BIOS from the in-socket thermister though, so I imagine it can get pretty cold ;).

My MCW462-UHT will do -32 deg C @ 12 VDC (no load - other than ambient losses)... :)
E-1250, D-Tek core, (2) Delta 120mm 152 CFM push/pull, 18 deg C amb air, 23 deg C water
1/16" hole x 1.25 dp into center of CP with Type K thermocouple (+/- 0.1 deg. C accuracy)

Nice frost Robotech. I'm sure my temps were pretty similar then, since my system is almost identical to yours except for having larger radiators.

WOW .....

So those 220W peltiers seem to work pretty damn well at 12 v... I had to chill this Drift0.8 on 12v down to a liquid temp of +1ºC to get that -31 reading... ok well it was with a massive open copper block on the cold side too, fully exposed to 22ºC ambient... Sweeeooo.. I feel better again... :D allmost got a little bit worried there.... :rolleyes:

What kind of chips are you running to recieve that -42, -31 reading?:drool:

They are not running any chips yet. These are no load results (ie no cpu attached).

Just seeing how low they can get thier TEC's to.

As before, these are no-load temperatures. MCW462-UHT and MCW50-T in parallel, E-1250, single D-Tek heatercore and two Delta 120 mm SHEs. 20 deg C ambient air, 28 deg C water, Both TECs @ 12 VDC The blue "wires" are thermocouple leads (thermocouple down in a drilled hole in each cold plate).

i didnt have a thermal probe or anything to measure water temps / cold plate temps or anything, but i can tell you my tongue hurt for awhile? why? just cause i felt like licking it even tho i knew i shouldnt have....

we have had a farkin runin with bad motherboards so we could only run in bios, since we have had 3 baords now with bad ide connectors... bargh..long story but proven...

bios temps 9C @ 2600, 1.71v

and yes we did insulate the whole block, had it all wraped up when on the board..that pic was when we first hooked it up, wanted to see everything and make sure all was well

That's the compressor for the chiller that helps cool the water for my pelt. I haven't had a chance to see what kind of frost forms on the pelt itself, but I'd assume it'd be a pretty good amount. ;)
