I originally only had it like that because it was much easier to machine that way.

But it occured to me afterwards that it wouldn't be hard to change the design, I've been trying to make a cascade type centre piece and then drill a grid array of small holes partially into the centre of the base plate. It's proving trickier than anticipated though.

I suppose it does mean your losing some performance there, but with some designs, (eg. the cascade mentioned above) I wouldn't of thought it would have that much of a detrimental effect.
