You do not need to use smb:// to access the snap. This run transperent, provided you have started it in the admin options. Try access use http://ipaddress or Servername just like a pc.

I curently have a old mac PM7500 running OS 9.1 and has had no problems. I have also used it in the past with a powerbook running 10.3 that my brother owns.

Note: On version <4 any changes to users and or options require a reboot for them to take.
