I've been running one of these:
http://www.aquaultraviolet.com/sterilizers.html for my Aquatic Turtle tank, it has the Wiper, and a small semi-transparant piece to allow you to see if it is working. I have never changed the bulb and it has been running 24x7 for about 2-2.5 years now. Just thought some of you may want to know.
When I first got it I took it apart. It has a huge test tube looking glass cylinder, that keeps the bulb from getting wet.
