AFAIK barb sizes are always listed as the ID of the tubing intended to fit over the barb. Actual max OD of the fitting appears to vary between manufacturers with (in my limited experience) the Eldon James single barb being the largest diameter.
I know EJ makes some barb-to-threaded-fittings that are straight cut (not tapered) and I would guess you could get a 5/8" barb x some (probably US "coarse") thread - which would leave you looking for a non-corrosive nut of that diameter/pitch. Might be worth searching this site and mcmaster. Mcmaster has a wider variety of EJ fittings (not labeled as such - mcmaster likes to "hide" the supplier/manufacturer name) but
1) expect to search
2) expect to have to buy at least 10
It's the only place in the states I've been able to find the EJ BSPT fittings...
