Can the MCW6002A w/step base fit the K8 socket
Just like the tiltle, can it fit K8 with a SK8-kit from Swiftech? I guess the only issue is too much force spring, so is it necessary to replace another spring?

surely theres a way, i just can't see why not. the core doesnt touch the stepped part does it? |

The only diff between the stepped one and non-stepped one should be the thickness of the waterblock, diff thickness and the same spring results in the diff spring force, the stepped base has a little thicker, so when applying a SK-8 kit it should add the pressure to the block, then to the core. But with the protection of the IHS of K8, it should be safe. Or we can replace another softer spring applying same force. All of above is only guess, there must be someone have experience on it. Who would give me an answer?

Swiftech wbs and hsfs cover the entire IHS, by design
all total bp thicknesses are the same compatibility/upgradability of the 6000 series are given on the site if something is incorrect please DO let us know (via the HELP e-mail addy) |

As a wild guess I would say that because of the heat spreader size on the A64 CPUs the 6002A block with the step won't make full contact with the spreader because of the missing area caused by the step.

I'm a believer.
of course it has to be done and photographed for proof...but the way I see it, a mobile chip would not suffer from mal-contact between the die and wb base. Not only that though, I believe that since the IHS on regular chip a64 chips, is highly exsagerated for protective purposes and not cooling ability - having 1mm along the side of the IHS not in contact with the wb base would hardly be detrimental. correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just going by application of the p4 heatspreader..i believe that the heat is centralized, and hardly even gets to the outer edges of the IHS. |

understandable, I can easily see why it would not be officially endorsed.
though i still think it would work for someone inclined enough to try. |
