T3h uber l337 Water Cooled Cardboard Box!

You guys'll probably find this one amusing... First, a bit of background, though...

I've been planning on doing a nice bit of modding to a Sonata2 to use as a display machine; however, due to the amount of modding and painting involved, it would likely take me about two weeks from start to finish. Unfortunately, I didn't have that kind of time available before a little 'opening party' that was thrown a couple weeks ago... so... I decided to use a cardboard box instead.

It was actually surprisingly difficult to get things mounted in there...then again, I don't normally build computers into cardboard boxes . Also, all of the tubing and stuff was cut for the Sonata, so it's kinda crazy in there (with a little extra wire mess thrown in for added ghettoness).

Specs:
A64 3000+ Venice (haven't had time to overclock yet... )
1GB Crucial Ballistix PC-3200 (borrowed from personal gaming rig)
DFI LP NF4 Ultra-D
MSI GF6600GT
Water Cooling: Silverprop Cyclone EvolutionSE (CPU), Silverprop Cyclone FusionHL (GPU), BIP2, Swiftech MCP655, and 7/16" ID Tygon tubing.

Fun with the fish-eye lens...

The wall prints are on loan from my parent's photography studio, incase you were wondering... they're really not "normal" office decoration. ...and the default WinXP background is there because I had just installed the OS the night before. Yay for procrastination...

Well, I could have my 'lil bro send his partially consumed food to them--they wouldn't mind moldy American food, right? Hmm... Then again, it'd probably be intercepted by some random warlord and used to fuel some tribal war or something...

Anyway, I can't wait to find the time to overclock it (especially since my warehouse/office gets really cold). At stock speeds (which really isn't saying much) the CPU is idling at 22*C...which is a mere 4*C above the ambient room temp

*EDIT* That's 4*C assuming that the thermostat on the wall a few feet away is somewhat accurate... and assuming that the temps reported by nTune aren't just FUD....

first modding job that ever made sense
color coordinated (perfect match for all the other boxes stacked around), sound absorbing matls of const, bitchin' window

only missing the hole for the cat to go in to play (exit out the window)

I wonder if some of the big names like Thermaltake are going to start cloning this? The materials cost has got to be great, and if it gets popular, the profit margins would be great! Just make sure there aren't any cardboard shavings in there.

now i may be missing the point, but afree hanging HD will dramaticly lower disk access times for random seeks (due to the whole drive moving counter to the head movements, requireing the head to take more time moving from point A to point B.)

I believe that people have done experiments on HDs suspended by rubber bands and found no difference in seek times.

isn't Antec using rubber band suspended drives in their new quiet cases? I remeber seeing something to that effect in the P150. I guess if the tension of the bands counters the torque of the drive it should be ok.

Thanks for the info; I trust Storage Review quite a bit.

Obligatory White Trash Case Pic Included from Spode's Abode.

Edit: This is not, of course, a way to say that Mr. Spode is white trash. It is merely a case that any self-respecting white trash person would be proud of having. Err.... I mean, that is, oh heck! I hope he isn't offended.
