Default PC-60 Pump/Rad Placement

I need some ideas on where the hell I should be placing everything.. I took a peak inside my case just a day ago... and I cant figure out where to put the pump and airtrap.... It's a bit cluttered in there..

I'm thinking first step is to dril the rivets that hold the hard drive cage in place.. Good place for the rad I'm thinking..

help/suggestions always welcomed

Many people have setup a rig in a Lian Li PC-60. It's not the best choice, but it works.

You probably want to keep the drive bays clear, at least that's what I'd do, but it'd be OK to sacrifice a 5 1/4, if you're sure you don't have a need for it.

Have you purchased any items yet?

So far I've got a Maze3 WB, an Eheim 1250 pump, and I was planning on getting a BI Pro or Extreme.

My main problem is that I have 3 HD's running.. So its taking up space.. I figure I can find some 5 1/4'' mounts and throw them in their but then it might be a heat issue.. So buying drive coolers would be the next step but thats even more $$ spent..

Damn my small case... i'm so tempted to get a PC-7x series case

I see you've got 3 Seagate drives. Are they the 15'000 rpm kind? Because if they are, you'd be better off with a cube (a server case). Much roomier, and its designed as a server case.

If not, then you really don't need to worry about them. I've ran HDs in far worse situations...

Aint that a coincidence. I have a PC-60, a Maze3, Eheim 1250 and BI-X i'm going to try to work out this weekend. I'll let you know what I come up with. My first thought is to put the radiator on top with a fan sucking air out of the case. Yes I know I'll be getting warmer air from inside the case but it's a design decision, it is a small case after all. Besides, I dont think you'll be able to get a 120mm fan in the front bottom. I'm gonna try to fit the pump in the lower drive cage.

Nope, my HD's aren't the 15k RPM type.. Normal IDE 7200RPM

Course this annoys me either way since I just had a custom door panel done. Damn my small case..

perhaps i should stay with air for my P4 and use the Pump/block for fiddling around with my AthlonXP.....

anyone with pictures of the inside of their PC-60's?

I'm trying to do the same, with concidently the same hardware.

For the pump, i plan to take out the hardrive cage, and keep it there

For the rad, i am drilling a blowhole at the top of the case, and placing the BIX in there

Then again, i do have a bong and will likely only keep this setup for lan parties

If you're willing to sacrifice 5 1/2" drive bays cramming this stuff in should be easy. Otherwise I'd recommend doing as you were going to do and drilling out the rivets that hold the lower-front drive cage in place, then placeing the psu there and mounting the radiator where the psu usually goes. Unorthodox? yes; will it work? absolutely. Then the pump can be attached to the ceiling of the case where you were originally planning on mounting the radiator, and this leaves space for a small res/flowmeter/insert-dodacky-here behind the psu on the bottom of the case. Te compriendes? Te gusta?

I've done the measurements; on a PC-60 (original, non-USB), you have 1.2cm of clearance from the top of the 120mm fan to the bottom of the 3 1/2" drive bays. You need to remove the existing 80mm fans though, unless you got a low profile (25mm) fan and placed it between the front bezel and 80mm's, but then you'd have to remove the lower-front filter!

all very interesting...

what if i put the rad in the front next to the two 80mm holes.. throw a 120mm in there.. then put the pump where the HD cage is..

here's a little paintshop to give an idea

I have a PC-60USB and the USB junk takes up enough space at the bottom where putting a 120 is not feasible unless your planning on doing some major modification (removing the USB mount and everything). And that wedges up agains the bottom of the upper 3.5 drive cage too. I mean, it does fit there but the bottom 1" is gonna be blocked. Gonna be a REAL tight squeeze to get the BI-X between the power supply and DVD-ROM drive up top too. Luckily the Enermax PSUs have the fan on the bottom so I'm not really blocking airflow.

what about having the pump beside the pci cards, and the rad either at the bottom front of the case, or at the top of the case

Hey I just recently put in the same stuff in a LianLi PC65 I think its the same but with a window. I put the Radiator and 120mm fan at the top; with the radiator mounted underneath the fan. I put the pump ontop of the 5.25" drive cage at the bottom between the 3.5" cage and the side of the case Its a modified Ehiem 1250 I pulled the filter cage off and the back piece. It fits but its really tight so you will have to get a right angle adaptor for the top and modify it a bit to get it to fit right. or you could cut the bottom of the external 5.25" cage so the tubes can fit through and mount a Digital Doc in the bottom 5.25 slot so you wouldnt lose the functionality of the space. I'll try to borrow a digital cam so i can show you guys how it works. It keeps the cooling junk out of the way from the rest of the system.

Default layout?

i've got a pc-70 case and im lookin at water cooling but im just not sure how im going to fit it in there...the HD rack at the bottom has 3 HD's in it..here is my plan right now

put an eheim1250 pump at the bottom if that sucker will fit...might get a maxi-jet..build myself a resevoir from a jbox and place that on the top of my 51/4 bays so it would act as an air trap also...and i'd mount the rad on the side of my case..does that sound like a sufficient setup? also if i used a maxi jet and put it inside the jbox would i have to have a separate air trap?

No, not to my knowledge. Just make sure the pump's intake is fully submerged so no air gets into the lines.

pc60 w/ maze2, eheim1250, and blackice extreme. fan+rad on blowhole up top, pump down in front of mobo by PCI slots - lose bottom 3 pci slots, but you can keep your hd cage. replaced eheim for viaaqua 1300. viaaqua pushes more water and is smaller. it fits between the hd cage and pci slots so you don't lose anything.
http://pictures.zoson.net you can see picz of when i twas setup with eheim there.

Here's some pics of my water cooling setup. It'll be slightly diffrent here soon though, I'm putting in a resevoir in my bottom 5.25" bay.

My Radiator is where the cage used to be, I just have the blackice. I'm just cooling my CPU. It couldn't fit more perfect right there.

Samething, cept pic of it assembled

The entire thing, I'm running the 1048 pump though.

two things --

one, where'd you put your HD's? -- and two

does having the Rad upfront raise your system temps much? I have good cooling I believe (2 x 92mm on the side door) and the two 80mm's upfront...

wondering if putting the rad on the top would be better...

If you look at the bottom 3.5" bay my harddrive is right there.

As far as my system temps, I didn't notice any diffrence what so ever... Actually they went down some. The water isn't hot like in a car.

The heat coming off your radiator isn't half as warm as the heat coming off of a heatsink... When I went water cooling, my system temps cooled, my vid card temp dropped a little, and the air coming out of my PSU is much much much cooler.

Hope that helps. I think the main reason I seen drops was that 120mm fan really moves air around in the case. With all my fans turned off in my system, my case temps rise to about 32C and my CPU idle temps are around 27C (halt command)

I love the halt command with my new 8k3a+ my CPU idle temp is the same as my water temp going into my water block.

And with that, when I don't have a load on my computer. I can practically turn off all fans in my system.

Chuki, did you chop up the front of your case to get that 120mm fan in there? I thought about putting a 120 there but the bottom is blocked by the USB assembly. After seeing your setup, I'm seriously rethinking my plan. It looks really good.

My 120mm is attached to my radiator, the radiator fit perfect inbetween the bottom of the case and the upper 3.5 cage. In front of the Radiator I have 2 Panaflo U1A's hooked up to the Fan Bus Lian-Li provides. I run them at the #2 they push about as much air as the stock Lian-Li Adda fans at #3 and you can't hear them.

Thanks for the compliments on my system, its by far from done. I'm getting ready to redo it all. I'm building my own res to fit in a 5.25" slot... I like how the system came out, It's just difficult to get all air out.
