Ack!! Which to buy: Maze 3 or New Spiral

Been trollin the boards trying to make up my mind, was going to get the TC-4 but its been out of stock every time I've tried to buy it. So its either the maze or spiral I guess, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer on which is better. I have a Eheim 1048 with 3/8" ID tubing & a black ice prime, cooling a XP 1600+ oc'd to 1750 mHz. It's got an old maze I on it right now, think it's finally time to upgrade

Any help would be appreciated...

If I had the money I would buy an Maze3, though now I don't have the money so i'm making a wb myself. With some cad help from the forum

Yeah, I got the Spir@l because the TC-4 didn't have a Ally top until a week or two after I ordered it(wish I knew it).

If you plan on adding a TEC/Peltier setup, go for the Maze 3.
But I hear the new TC-4 performs well in comparison to the Maze 3. And I believe its cheaper. What, like $37 for the TC-4 to $48(stainless steel kit) for the Maze 3?

Yep, and as one member here found out, if you replace the turbulators with springs, you'll get much better performance.

In fact, he's working with Danny to incorporate this in the TC-4!

Ya'll probably could do the same TC-4 mod to the spiral, but it would be harder to do on a Maze3, because the channels are of a varying width.

On a Spiral, it might work even better than in the TC-4, because of the circular channels which would push the water into the springs.

The channels don't vary in width on a Maze3, they just have two that join into one, the two channel under the inlet are perfect for turbulators cause they only have half the flow each of the outer channel, so you can't really restrict them without dropping a brick in there!

I'd get an OCPC Atlantis as block of choice, only sold in the UK though, or one of Cathars 'Little River/Rapids' concept block (hope he don't keep that name!,[shudder]) if you've access to Australia

I could'nt point a finger at either and say, BillA possibly could (depending on pump&rad, hope you're upgrading more than just the block) he's tested the TC~4, and I'd be surprised if he's not come accross a M3 on his sojourns.

I'd wait a while before you order, try and get it right first time, I brought my M3 and Ehiem1250 a few months ago and am already looking to other horizons!

I think MY money would be best spent on some C101 copper stock an a few quality endmills.

Although they both look very promising and appear to perform well, I think Id rather make my own as this would be more satisfying than just buying a block that atleast 100,000 other people own.

Just my 2 cents.

You're right, the channel width doesn't vary! It's not a regular channel though: the curvature varies. Like I said, put the same spring in the Spiral.

Buy a #rotor block. Cheap, and they perform really really well. And of course you can get him to customise the blocks for you

I agree with MadDog, Atlantis or Little Rapids.

Or if you're in US as I am both will cost xtra to ship so far.

But those 2 are the best I've found. Both are under the reccomended weight and both are very high performance blocks.

Looks nice, kinda reminds me of Paul's block externally...internally it reminds me of morphling's work.

I'd really like to see a pic of the inside of the Atlantis, I think the centre is hollw and outlets to the right of the exit barb,(there's a wall between the exit barb and top right section of block) causing the water to run round the fins. only bad point I can make if this is so is dead spots between the fins, could be aleviated by boring tiny holes through to the hollow centre?, enough to move the water but not stop flow around the block...

Anyone got an Atlantis to show pics of?...

Good question. I asked Danny about this, he wasn't sure either. He said the the original (fixittt) is 3/4" thick where the new one is 1/2" thick. Have no idea of the base thickness though. Wow, what an unhelpful post.
