City map...
Yesterday my bro and I went to have a drink, and this is what we found in the center park...that used to be a city map, it was there maybe 6 months...
Guess there are better ways to show somebody where you live...maybe a more subtle marker on a city map...

I'm having flashbacks of "Meteor"...
Seriously... they should have used a plastic, instead of glass. Yeah, the vandals take their lighters to it, but it's cheaper to replace. |

Yeah, you'd think a city would have a public piece equipped with shatter proof lexan or something of the like wouldn't ya.
But as most cities...someone proably got that money and put it in their own pocket.

USA isn't the first place bad society existed, although Hollywood does a good job of showing us all of the bad faces of the US. Ever been to the harsher portions of Mexico? How about the slums of Brazil or India? There are bad people everywhere, and entropy isn't helping.

I just hate to see the myth propagated that the US is the source of all world evil. There are people that hate the US (some of them live here!), and I don't want to help them. Destroy someone's self-image, and the population soon follows. That works for a country too.

Yeah, I agree, there are bad ppl everywhere. There's no pure society, wherever or whenever.
I don't think that TV and movie stuff can give me exact picture of anything, nor I can (or will) base my opinion on that. What, should I believe that ppl in US mainly look like and live like the Osbournes (yeah, I watch MTV...rarely...)? No way. Looking at the several past month's I spent here, I found that there are good ppl everywhere, usually gathered around something in mutual interest. Ppl who want to help and socialise. Speaking of mutual interests, ppl who hate or in any way dislike this and that, prolly gather somewhere else, so what is said here cannot be understood that way. I think it's always good to know both sides. The main reason I put that pic here is that I was pissed off. Hell, I would even laugh (still pissed off, but...) if the person(s) who did that put the sign YOU ARE HERE above that rock and show some sense of humour or whatever, but it was just plain act of idiotism. I live in town with 35000 pop., small town, everybody knows almost everybody (hell!!!) and ofcourse, nobody knows who did this. City police swarming the local equivalents of pubs and cafe's on their all day breakfast pause, usually stopping ppl for not haveing their seat belts on and things like that, but no sign of 'to serve and protect' anything nor anybody. A month ago, several teenagers beat to death (literally) one kid in front of a cafe around 10 pm. Civilization? Small cities, big sheits, big cities, .....

Sorry to hear that your town doesn't benefit from the "everyone knows each other". It should be better than that! If someone was beat to death, there should be a massive search for the culprits and then a hanging. That's just not right to leave it alone.

I agree, but things don't work like that here anymore. People alienated a lot in this post war yr's.
Things are getting better, but too slow. As always. Just wanted to point that source of evil is not centered and spereading, but everywhere... At least where the human(oids) are...

Amazing isn't it? People are so self centered that they will pervert the justice system to create a bigger empire.
In Oregon, the voters didn't roll over and agree to a tax increase, so the state let something like 20 criminals out on the street as (basically) blackmail. The jails are a huge profit center for government as well as a great tool for leveraging higher and higher taxes. After all, who can vote against higher taxes when they need it for keeping criminals off the street? Never mind that the reason they need more money is that they created five billion dollars worth of OTHER govt programs too. And THAT is why Doonesbury is making fun of Oregon. We didn't vote for higher taxes, so we must hate our kids and love to have criminals on the street. What logic. It's not America. It's a few politicians that are (in my very heated opinion) wasting oxygen. |
