Default New Iwaki DC water pump

I was surfing around for info on a different Iwaki pump when I found these. The RD-05H is a 24VDC water pump. This pump is almost silly, its so powerful. It has Max flow rate of 6lpm and Max head of 9m. This is rated at only 17watts output. I have not found this pump any where but at Iwaki's Web Site. I wrote them for info on the pump and a list of resellers stocking it. I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this pump.

I've contacted Iwaki about a 12v version. I love the RD-20 or 30, those specs are insane.

Yes, the RD-20 has about the same performance curve as the Iwaki MD-30RZ 50Hz model (my pump), but just a 28W power draw instead of 70W.

If only they made it in 12V. I'd have one in my system in a flash.

Sounds an awful lot like a direct drive.

It should be easy to find a 1A 24VDC psu. Here's one off top of my head that would be fine for this pump:

It's under 1A if it's 17W so something unobtrusive would be no problem I'd think...

I just called Iwaki and spoke to Jason. He gave me the phone number of a local reseller. I have called the reseller and they are checking on the Price for the RD-20 and RD-30. There may be a discount for buying a num ber of these. A gruop buy may be needed to get a good ( better) price. Hopefully I will hear back with in a hour or so.

Here are the electrical specs for the RD line. Helpful for looking at power supplies.

how did that go ?

no free lunch

and note that a 12V version would have a startup draw of ~16A

Exactly right. It would have 5A draw after startup. You would need a serious PSU to run it. Even a beefy Fortron 400W only has 15A on the 12V rail.

Have to remember how Iwaki specs pumps. Their wattage specs are for what the pump puts out not what is needed electrically. So if 'average mag drive efficency' is true that 28W output will need about 60W input. Which is about right. 24V * 2.5A = 60W

Hmm, the power draw is disappointing. I don't think that anyone expected a free lunch, but with ~8-9W of actual pumping work being done, it's not like we're asking for the pump to defy the laws the physics either....
