Well I ripped the Storm/G5 silver block out of my testbed, cleaned it up a little, and it's now on its way to Phaestus. If it arrives as fast as the Storm/G4 did, it should be within him next Tuesday.

Oh btw I found the white balance on my camera. I assumed "auto" would be ok but it looks like if you are taking pics with no flash you have to manually set it to the type of lighting.

On a side note, anyone ever try running the Iwaki MDs undervolted? Say, to running extremely quietly? Think it would be a problem?

Also, I have the high head, Z-type MD-20 (on 60Hz). The way my tubing is, I would be more convenient to instead of having the extake nozzle pointing upward, have it pointing sideways. Would it be a problem if I unbolted the front part (I believe that's the technical term) and rotating it 90 degrees?

what is the attraction in undervolting a high head pump ?

the pump head can be rotated to any position

my Iwaki MD-30RZ is a 100v model, running it on a AC variable transformer
i have varied the voltage from ~80 to ~120v, no real change in noise, very minor change in flow....so son't bother

Yes, that will work. The outlet can be turned to aid in shortening lines & avoiding bends. A good thing to do.

Does not the pump run noticably hotter if you run a 100v pump motor @ 120v?

I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't have purchased a US115v motor version.

How much flow rate increase did you gain by running it at 120v, and what are the specs of a MD30 that's a 100v model?

specs are not affected by the voltage... i imagine brucoman bought it on ebay, where 100V ones come up fairly regularly... (as do 115 and 220v ones ftm)

What about a GPU design? A version of the Storm for the GPU would be great! I know I'd want one.

GPU blocks just don't seem to improve as fast as CPU blocks do.

A set of TEC water-chiller block plans are with the machinists at present. Depending on its success in that arena the basic design could be adapted to a fairly effective and cheap to make GPU block, and as a moderately effective CPU block. Design is more targetted towards cooling larger areas effectively, rather than the hot-spot focus designs that I've been concentrating on of late.

I've been hoping for something different and better than the NV-68 block I'm using right now...

Any chance it can even cover the memory along with the GPU? I know that's highly unlikely, but I figure it can't hurt to ask...

I can probably figure out something for the memory if not...

If targetted toward cooling larger areas at modest cost.......how would this design compare with a Storm blocks jets for cooling?

Or how would the new design compare with the Fusion, which is one of the best at the moment for GPU cooling? (A known commodity)

I'd be happy to pay more for the focused extreme cooling of the jets as used in the Storm adapted into a GPU block design myself if you offered such for the GPU.

Whoa! Let's not get too carried away okay? I'm not particularly fond of GPU blocks due to them being so fiddly and non-standard. The stuff I make costs more, I appreciate that, but I always try to make up for it by making the designs as universal and forwards-compatible as I am able to, so maximum use is obtained out of them.

What is my first focus in the low-cost TEC chiller thing. The GPU idea is a distant possibility, and def. not something to get hopeful about any earlier than 6 months from now, if even then. It's just a back-burner thing at present.
