XP2500 unclockable?
I just put together another PC
Barton 2500+ NF7-S 400 ram (1 gig) With my own system I knew it wouldnt O/C but you could fudge the FSB to 200 and make it run at 3200. Well on this one it wont do 200 FBS, anything over 166 causes it to either loop at boot or I get a BSOD. Anyone heard anything about this? are the latest Bartons fully locked? or am I just crazy? What type/brand of ram do you have? Try upping the voltage and relax the timings. 2.5,3,3,11 and make sure your psu can handle the power draw. List your system specs and it will be easier to figure out what to change around so it overclocks.

Ok
List of parts Abit NF7-S MB Rev. 2.0 Silicon Image 3112 Bios version 20 I checked the newest Bios and Abit says there is no change as far as the newer versions of Bios ( as far as the NF7-S is concerned ) all changes in bios are for the AN7 boards guess they use the same Bios. Batron 2500+ CPU Crucial 400Mhz DDR (2 sticks 512 Mb each total 1 Gig) SEAGATE Sata drives 80 GB (2) in Raid 0+ 160 GB total Enermax EG425-VE SFMA (420 watt) Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB ram Herules Fotisimo 7.1 Sound card Cooling Innovatek Rev 3.0 CPU Block Chevette Heater core Enhiem 1250 pump 120MM fan (shrouded ) currently running at 5 volts Power looks good and it doesnt help if I bump voltages. Ram timming is currently set to optimal 8/3/3/3.0 and FBS will go up to 190 Stable FBS 195 will get into windows but bench mark (3D mark 2001 SE and others) fail to launch Tried everything I can think of as far as timing and it makes no difference. Beginning to wonder if it isnt the video card, maybe the FBS change is throwing the Video off. Any thoughts? Aardil |

My Thoroughbred-B 2400+ came unlocked, and currently runs 2Ghz @200FSB with cooling that couldn't get more stock. But that probably doesnt help you much.
But my roomate is running his barton 2500+ at 2Ghz, 200MhzFSB(400DDR), with a really shitty watercooling rig that has more bubbles than a....ummm....uuuuhh.....something that has a lot of bubbles

Try setting your timings on your ram to something like 11-3-3-2.5
Your barton 2500+ should do 11x200. Mine does at least.. gonna push it more when my last WC part comes in for the setup i'm doing

Tried all settings, and voltage bumped in stages to max, still no 200 FBS
Final top performance FBS 190 Stable Multi X11 Windows reports Processor as a 2.10 ( guessing thats about 3000) Memory timing 8/3/3/3.0 3D Mark 2001se score : 16371 3D Mark 03 score : 5478 Aquamark 3 score : 39228 (breakdown) GFX 5466, CPU7135 PC Mark 04 score : 3768 |

what voltage did you get up to? It takes about 1.90-1.95 volts to bump my amd 2500 barton to 3200 speeds (it sucks I know). But im assuming its the way there building the chips now.. or maby its something else.. eather way, it took a good amount of voltage to get to my 3200 (did i mention it got hot? <-- its on original heatsink/fan, watercoolings comming with the 2400+ mobile i orderd.)

tried all voltages from stock to max nothing made it better.
Also even at 190 it wouldnt play everquest for more than a couple mintues. Had to drop back to 185 FBS to make game stable. I believe they (AMD) are now locking the FBS also. The PC is the exact same thing as my Gamer PC ( I do have a bit better water cooling setup) but all Hardware is identical. My Gamer does 3200 at stock voltage and gives me no trouble at all. My chip was bought when they first locked the multiplier. 11x is all it will do but I can change FBS to 200+ and have no problems. The latest disaster was bought about a couple weeks ago. It the only logical thing I can think of. |

heh, My 2500 does 2.2Ghz at 1.775v (200x11) with the stock AMD heatsink, idles at 115F. Perfectly stable. Back when I did watercooling, it could do 2.3Gigs (200x11.5). I'm using Corsair XMS3200 Ram.

Barton's are usually good. Mine is multiplier locked but does 2.2G at stock voltage (water cooled).

I built a rig for a work college a while back and it was locked and also refused to run at 200fsb stable. It was only happy at 190fsh, too
