Really stupid INtel question

Ok...i am not familiar at all with the P4's....can somebody tell me what the difference is between a socket 423 and socket 478

i know it's a stupid question....

socket 423 has 423 pins and is old (don't buy anything with this)
socket 478 has 478 pins and is new (buy this one)

you could always not buy intel

socket 478 = long island = alcheehol

Get him a 1.6A northwood for 133 bucks, and OC it to around 2.3ghz

we've had 2 now at work that would do a clean 1ghz overclock
