NO DISK Snap 2200
I set up my snap server and it was working fine now all of the sudden It says:
SHARE1 - Unavailable: disk is offline. I cant do any of the utilities because it cannot find the disk. I have reset the server back to defaults but it still wont work. Any ideas why this is happening? |

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
If you had it set up as a RAID 0, all that has to happen is loose 1 drive and every thing is lost. If you still have access to the admin, only 1 drive is down. If none you have 2 dead, and will require a image file or a working drive from another 2200 to get back up. After resetting back to factory, you need to run assist to locate the snap and do the initial setup, network Address.

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
Well i can get to the admin page but i do not no if it was set up as a Raid 0. I also dont have the original cd and apparently im outside my complimentary support period. Does any one have that file or a link. It does say
Disk2 Single disk Uninitialized. Disk has not been validated yet. Please wait. and the same for the Mirror. And now it say there are no network shares. |

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
Getting to the admin is good. Means you still have a OS to get things going. Go to the disk utilities and check status. From debug post the results of "co de info"

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
It appears the bottom drive (10010) in the rack has dropped out of the raid 1 set. This should not have caused the data not to come up, though. Since one is showing a single drive, has me wondering what happen.
I would suggest swapping the drives position and see if it comes back. If it works you will need to resync the drives. The drive info shows both drives working, but with a mirror, and single disk. Before doing the resync you need to back up the data first. Does the Disk Utility (gui) show a single bad drive or something else?

Drive2 - Single disk
Uninitialized. Disk has not been validated yet. Please wait. 75,836 Unknown Unknown Mirror - Data protection disk Uninitialized. Disk has not been validated yet. Please wait. 75,836 Unknown Unknow this is what the disk status says How would i resync the drive. I also dont have the access software and I am outside my warranty. Is there another way to get that? Is this the reason why it says uninitialized? |

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
You don't need assist since you have access. Apparently you did not do a reset to factory.
The problem with trying to resync is I do not know which drive is good. Normally on a raid1 you can still access the data with a drive down. Since you can not makes me wonder if 1 drive was replaced and the resync was not ran. Leaving you with a broken raid and a single drive, in which the raid drive now has a problem. I would swap drive positions and see if you gain access to your data. If not, you have 2 options. One is run SpinRite on your HD's under maintance mode. The other which is probably the best choice if you must have the data is send them to a recovery service $$$$. SpinRite has fixed some probems for users, it is a option. To use it you must remove the drive to a PC and boot with the SpinRite CD. Now if these drives are Maxtor's I would look at replacing them with WD or Seagates. Maxtors have the highest failure rate in the industrie.

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
One of those drives is failing David. He needs to figure out which one and replace it before the other one goes south...

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
That's easier said than done.
Take a look at the log file and see if it gives an indications. If not try these debug cmds "info log T" I think is the one. or this one "in lo p -l" It's been a while since I have used these cmds.

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
It will work with one bad drive but once one goes I've seen the second fail right behind it in a very short time, <14 days. You currently have 80 gig HD's, depending on what os you have your unit will support HD's >137gig.
You need to make a copy of the OS boot tracks. If you loose you last drive your dead in the water with no way to revive it. The instructions can be found in the wiki sections and FAQ's. Your Snap can work as a FTP server. Just need to turn on the ftp service, and add a firewall rule to forward port 21 to your snaps IP. Then setup a Dyndns so you can find it by name, unless you have a static IP. Make sure you use real strong Passwords on all accounts, specialy root/admin. Soon as you open up the port the hackers will be there, trust me on this one. The snap os works best with IE. For some reason it has trouble with most all FTP Client software. Probably due to the limited ram to operate in.

Re: NO DISK Snap 2200
For passwords, do not use any word or name that is in a dictionary. Allways use numbers and letters with a min length of 8 chr. Prefered admin passwords min 12 chr including any one having admin rights. Most allow you to use all printable chr like !@#$%^&*()_+';.,\| all except " (double quotes). Good PW are very difficult to remeber, so it's OK to write it down and/or have your browser remember it for you. Here is a example of what I use for WPA Keys P!g@)}q[fLiP4SiU2h;VxD~0}q74qzwn{Ty*OPeZjU]ldU),Wh_dzjCHMHf.'U4 You get the idea. You can get FREE random generated keys from www.grc.com . There is a sofware package that uses a USB memory stick to contain your passwords, so you take them with you to any pc. It is PW protected so you only have to remember 1. Persons who do a lot of traveling use them.
I had a bookmark some where that caculated a brute force attack on the time needed to crack PWs. It main said if you use all printiable chr 20 chr long it was going to take a pc tring 100,000 trys/sec over 23 yrs. So for WPA key do not need to be longer than 20 chr if the key is like above. Most are not going to stay around that long and be detected. But coming off a wire here than can hide there tracks, yes. 24/7. You will most hackers these days are coming from China and Russia. If your using a router which most are, make sure SPI is on if it has the option. You alleady have a firewall with the NAT that preforms router functions. Most routers have a DynDNS section were you can signup for their free service or pay a low anuall fee so you can use other services they offer. Depending on the router, you may find that you need to add a firewall rule, pointing the ftp service to your snap, or through the port forward section. Generaly you use a port forward to move a std port to a non std port. Once you have it setup and working, I would add a port forward to move the FTP port up above the 1024 wall, to somethng in the 1025-65535 range. Then to access it you would use a addree like this "ftp://mydomain.comortnumber" .
