I have a snapserver 1000 running version 3.2 and the system files are stored on the harddrive. I woud like to support larger harddrives so can someone please provide Snap OS 3.4.805? I'm tempted to go to 4.x, but I've heard that it is slower on older hardware. Thanks!

All snaps store the OS's on the HD. Just some have it also in flashram.
What is your BIOS and HW versions?

I would appreciate anyone's help in obtaining 3.4.805. I have a Snap 2000 with software 3.4.803. I have a 200 GB drive that will only show 130GB or so. My hardware is 1.1.0 and my bios is 1.2.180. Thanks in advance for your help and the great information in the forum.

By the BIOS & HW version you posted you may have a v1 2000 w/SIMM's, SN <28k. If this is the case 805 may not solve the problem. Only v2 2000 have been able to suceeded.

HELP PLEASE!

I have a SNAP 4000 running:
s/w = 2.3.417 (US)
h/w = 2.0.1
BIOS = 2.0.282

I would like to upgrade the OS & BIOS if needed to replace the 30GB drives with 4x250GB drives.

Would I need to follow a certian upgrade path?
Can anybody share the OS files?

Thanks in advance!

There are NO upgrades for the BIOS. You will need to boost the ram (min 128) if you install the larger drives. Helps Boost the performace in handling raid 5 and JVM if you are running it. As for OS you are correct with needing 3.4.805 or v4 for large disk support. You are at a version of the OS that will allow you to direct to 805, no need to go to 803 first.

The 4000 stores the OS in flashram, so the upgrade will be easy. I would do the OS upgrade before replacing the drives. That way it will know to use LBA48.

Califorina ..... Hummmm.
Are you going to have power to run it will all of the rolling blackouts this summer? Or has CA finally figured out they need to allow exploration and build generation plants????? As you neighboring states grow there will be less.

I've got a 705N which actively refuses to accept (even Dell) updates such as 3.4.790 and 3.0 from their site, and spent quite a bit of time on their support line getting this resolved without much success.

sw: 2.4.441
hw: 2.2.1
bios: 2.4.437

Anyone got 3.4.805 from snap, so I can try that before trashing this useless box?
I mean, if it refuses to accept genuine delll updates chances of it accepting the snap version are even less, but who knows.

reply and/or privmsg me a linky? or email to where i can grab it, thanks.
adaptec site is useless, they don't even offer 3.x downloads anymore all they have is some 4.x upgrade which i dont even need.

The 705N is the same as the 4100, which does not support large disk. 3.4.803 is all you need.

Is the unit booting up?

Can you connect via Assist and/or web?
Is there any drives installed?

Sometimes coming from the earlier version you have to update from Assist, with the later releases from the web update page

Is it running Guardian OS or Snap?

Yeah, I went through all that jazz with dell.
it powers on, i can access it from the web interface, i've tried 3.0 and 3.4 pvassist upgrades from dell. its a 160gb unit, so all 4 drives are installing and operational.
every pv-related upgrade from dell fails to install.

It is running SnapOS as far as I know (2.4.441).
Dell site mentioned I had to upgrade 2.4 to 3.0 first using Assist, then to 3.4 using assist34, anyway I've followed all those things for several weeks now on and off without much success.

Have you done a factory reset prior to installing the upgrade.

Yep.
Thanks for that info, I just did that.
4 blinks, full reset.
Assist 3.0 asked me to configure default settings including password etc.
There was a error message during config "Cannot set language, you should use the web interface to set it", otherwise everythign was fine.
Tried 2.4->3.0 upgrade, same error message

Some times the units have to be in factory default settings with JBOD. Don't ask me why, Its a flook with their system.

You are at the latest/final release bios for a 4100.

This is/was a RAID5 configuration. But yeah, still doing a reset did not change the upgrade status to fail or succeed.

The message I get from Assist, "This file is not a valid upgrade for your server" appears instantly after clicking "apply" in the upgrade box. (Using either assist 3.0 or 3.4, and with fw upgrade from dell for eitiher 3.0 or 3.4. bummer.

What wrong with it?
Raid 0 failure?
Raid 1 Mirror broken?
Or just dead?

Won't boot.

System light blinks once for every 2 disk light blinks. I believe that means it's trying to download an OS.

When I pulled the drives from this appliance, I didn't realize the OS was on the drives. The drives have been formated several times over at this point. I have some larger drives I'd just like to stick in (160GBs). I'm pretty sure if I get the OS (any 2.x or greater; I have the snap_sys_805.sup file) I should be able to use "dd" and get the appliance up again.

Thanks!!

You will need to copy the boot tracks from a working Snap or image file to the hd to get the unit up and running again. This is done with dd. Do you have another snap laying around that boots. Any one will work execpt a 1000v1.

You already have the OS (805) which will be needed for large disk support.

The .sup file is not a direct image you can "dd" into the device.
As bluef said, you need the image off a working box.
But I don't know where to get that. I just got mine working last weekend.

Need a little more help gang.

used the dd comand and my snap 2200 is online. Trying to use the "con dev for 10000 /reinit" command and I get. "Invalid device id 10000 requested" I've tried 10010 as well.

When I go into "Disk Utilities", "View Disk Status" I'm told no disks found.

The disk is a WD 30 Gig set to master on in the top port.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The cmd is "co de format 10000 /reinit" Its the right cmd if dd worked and the drive booted.

A 2200 will not boot with out a drive.

Are any other drives installed?
What was the original drive config Raid 0,1, JBOD?

Some WD drive have a EIDE, snaps don't play well with them.
Does the WD have a option for singe drive?

On this WD drive, the drive must be set to cable select, not master.

Thanks for all the help.
