Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
You should be able to download it from Adaptec,

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
I'm new on the forum and still researching (about 2 hours into it so far and still reading!) but I thought I'd post this sooner rather than wait till the end of my reading.
I've just acquired a 2000 with a high serial number (56xxx) but no software. There's nothing wrong with it, I just don't know how to access it. I'm on my W2K3 controller and when I first plugged it in, my dhcp server gave it an address. But due to a fault network cable I couldn't ping it or anything. I replaced the cable, have powercycled the box several times, but it doesn't seem to be asking for an address any more and I can't "find" it on the network via ping. The System light blinks steadily about once a second (perhaps slightly faster than that), and the link light is green and steady. The Net light blinks erratically, as a network light should. The disk light goes on at the start for a bit, and a couple of times after that, and I can hear it spin. So I think the unit's fine (there's no reason it wouldn't be afaik). I just want to start using it! Can someone send me whatever files you think I'd need to actually use this thing? I'd like to upgrade the disks (the label says it's 80GB) and the opsys etc, but first thing's first - just accessing it. I tried surfing to the address that the dhcp server gave it, but as I said with the faulty cable that didn't work, and since replacing the cable I'm not seeing it via ping. Is there some clever way to tell it to do an IP address refresh/request? Files would be appreciated, and of course I'll continue reading this forum for edification, illumination, and instruction! Regards dr__dk@hotmail.com |

There are some instructions for resetting the snap in the wiki.

I configured it manually for it's own address and it works fine now. Looks like the unit's working fine, too. I upgraded the memory to 256MB, and will upgrade the disks next. I should probably post this in a different thread, but my unit has the following: s/w: 3.1.603 h/w 2.0.0 serial 56866 bios 2.0.282 So all I need is an updated bios and etc. to at least 3.4.805 I believe, and I can stick in a couple of larger-capacity drives >136 gigs. Would appreciate assistance with any of the above D |

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
If he does that he will need assist. If he reset the admin PW it will allow him access, if it was set for dhcp, and he has a good cable.
Persons who have bad cables laying around generally have several. They fail to throw out or clip the ends and re-terminate.

I don't need Assist because I reset all the config including passwords, IP address etc. I then checked on my dhcp server and saw what IP address it received, and from there it was easy. I should have mentioned previously that I'm running W2K3 Active Directory, so I'll need to use a v4 rather than 3.4.805+, ideally. Interesting to see that this forum and thread gets a lot of attention, even for devices that are getting quite old. I was lucky with my device - it appears brand new inside, cuz I think the company never used it. The drives were empty, too. It's kind of a shame throwing out the 2x40GB quantums. D |

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
You might want to hold onto the drives. Occasionally someone shows up needing one to rebuild their raid after it's failed. You could make a few bucks selling it to them.

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
There is a work around posted in the wiki section for using the older OS's with AD 2003 support. Requires using a linux computer.
There are not BIOS updates for these units. Just OS.

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
I need win2k3 support for my snap server 4100's. I have ver 4 software on one, but only 3 on the other. I need to update my ver 3 to a 4, so I can work on mirroring them including backup up the security from one and restoring it on the other. I know what I need to do, but need the proper OS for the one. I've asked adaptec and they said they cannot sell just the OS without the bronze maintenance. Talk about a gimmick!!
If someone could email me, that would be great!! I'd even be willing to trade mine with someone. jaylweb@google.com |

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
The 1100 models have the OS on the HD. Refer to the FAQ's.
Most 1000 (v1) have the OS in flashram. If this is what you have it takes ~10min for the OS to be installed before you can access it (admin). Then it may takes another 30-45 min before the drive is fully init.

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
What is the led pattern. system 1 and disk 2????
1000 are slow so it is possiable that it could take over 24 hrs. All depends on the LED pattern.

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
Looking for OS. (1000v2) OS Not Found
If you have a working drive you need to copy the boot tracks over to the new one. Instruction in the FAQ's or use the quick link in my signature.

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
2. My HD has failed. How do I replace it?
A. The 1000v1 has the OS stored in flash ram, just install the hd. It takes about 10 min before you can connect to the web interface. B. If you have a 1000v2 or 1100 you must transfer the boot tracks from a working unit or by the use of image files. There are 2 different image files used to recover from a failed drive in the 1x00's. C. The 1000's normally use a 1000 image file, but if you get a 1 x 2 LED blinking pattern it requires the 2200.img file. D. The 1000v2 & 1100 requires an image file to be copied to the new drive. (Normally the 2200 image file) Note: You need to reinstall the OS after doing an image file recovery to replace any missing OS files. Do I need take new hdd out from snap put on cpu use fdisk then format 16 or 32 then put 2200.img then put hdd back to snap that way it works? |

Re: Snap OS v.4 (snap server 1000)
NOPE. Will not work that way.
The snap is built on BSD. You must copy the OS from the original HD to the New one. You can try to coping the OS from the failed drive using Digital Dolly to the new one. You only need 15-25 meg for the OS to boot. Other wise you will require an image file to restore the snap to a working unit.
