I think with my setup this mod is exactly what my system needs, more 5v for the cpu and more 12v for the pelt. so what if it melts.

did the mod, not sure what value pot I stuck in there, but turned all the way up, I get 5.4V and 12.6V no load.
how high is too high on the 5v?? |

They are so right about having a POS PSU. The PSU is very often overlooked and is so often taken for granted. I had stability issues before I realized that my PSU wasn't able to handle the new load after the last upgrade.
A PSU that gives you a lot of bang for your buck is a Leadman LP-6100E 500W. I exchanged an incompatible 500w 24-pin ATX PSU for one of these a short while back, and man, I love this thing. I probably wont have to upgrade my PSU for a while to come. The load it can handle on all voltage levels is pretty decent. 3.3V | 5V | 12V | -5V | -12V | +5Vsb 30A | 50A | 25A | 0.3A | 0.8A | 2.0A That should be plenty enough power for most operations.
