Default Guardian OS 5 replacement

So Overland storage sucks and has yet to even think about upgrading samba in Guardian OS 5 so it can work with a Windows Server environment. Meanwhile the rest of the linux world had this support last year. So, even though I have paid support, I am pretty much planning to ignore it like they do to me and replace guardian OS with something useful. Anyone have any good ideas for a linux or unix distro to install with a browser interface? Or, does anyone think they could upgrade samba in GOS 5.1.041 to work with windows server 2008?
