Which p4 board?

Since my athlon system got hosed I'm looking for a new combo. I havn't run a Intel based system since my p2-400. Its still my favorite computer today. Probally because it was the first one (I) bought.

Anyways I'm going to be buying a p4, probally the newer ones with the 533mhz bus. I've been looking at user comments and really havn't come to a conclusion on what brand motherboard to get for overclocking. I'm looking at the Abit BD7-II raid right now. Seems to overclock really well. The only thing I do know I will be running is Corsair XMS3200 512mg memory. That will ensure that it will be my CPU holding me back and nothing else.

Anyways, what do you guys recomend for a board.

you won't get the amd killing performance unless you run 1066rdram and required chipset.

The Asus P4t533-C uses the i850E (the E is important) chipset that takes the 1066RDRAM.

browse newegg.com for other boards that use that chipset

the GigaByte GA-8IHXP looks DAMN SWEET!!!

I guess they all overclock well and perform good. I wish and could get a rambus board. The extra memory bandwidth would be great but I can't justify spending the extra money on that memory. Also If I do get to overclock well and raise my fsb up to 150-180 my bandwidth will be high enough I hope to provide me with enough bandwidth.

i need a new board someday as well, mine is a cheesy tyan and it's not made for any overclocking, i like the ddr asus board, and i just wondered, i can use a p4 with 400 fsb even though it's made for 533 right?

arid, you can run at 100 - 200mhz fsb in 1mhz increments. so it'll do it.

I ended up ordering a BD7-II raid. Seemed like the best solution for me.

On another note my 2.26b cpu came today. Personally I feel like I have been missing out. I havn't run the chip yet since the motherboard hasn't come in, but the actuall chip seems alot better made then my amd's. Its more solid and ****ING tiny. The only thing that does scare me are the pins. So small, so fragile, damn that rap music! lol

errr, would would have come out cheaper getting an xp2200+
but I guess you know that.

the p$ can't compete without the 1066 RDRAM.

Thats not true. Considering I will most likely be running my fsb @ 165-177 area it will perform really well.

Yes it would of been cheaper but I wanted to give intel a chance again. I havn't had an Intel cpu since my p2-400

Also, the tbred isn't looking to hot right now. Overclocks are not to high, and the upgrade path isn't clear. The intel's upgrade path isn't as shady and the overclocks are awesome right now.

The final thing that sold me was the temputure. The p4's run much cooler. They also have built in thermal protection. The less heat I produce the less heat I put into my room and the easier it is to keep it at 70f. Right now with my p2-400 I have cold air exhausted from my case. My rooms stays at 70f to. Granted it won't stay like that when I run a p4, but never the less its less heat generated.
