My Heatercore Shrouds

My uncle and I made these shrouds out of aluminum sheet metal today and they are a PERFECT fit. The heatercore will be JB welded to the shrouds and the shrouds will have holes drilled for where the fan screws will go. Also, the metal "faces" of the aluminum will be dremeled out completely once we find out where the screw holes are going to go. I made a pic in Photoshop to show what I mean by that. So here are a few pics.

Thx, Brad. Yah I'd put bigger fans on, but they won't fit width wise in the mobo chamber. Plus those fans you linked to earlier are two inches thick. As much as they rule, I'm very tight for space as it is. But i'm almost done w/ the cooling system for the project and i'm STOKED.

Uh Brad sent me a link the other day. They aren't at cooling sites. You need to just get 12v fans from electronics sites.

. Every submitted article usually has pix of stuff on my bed and you just get the biggest kick outa them. They're great though. Chicks luv 'em.

Yeah very nice fans. I have one of the 24V models - got it for £5 ($7.50) inc two plastic guards.

At full voltage it blows a gale, pointed it at a 80 mm fan and it spun the blades, this from about 8 inches. Noisy at full power, you definitely want to throttle these things back.

The 24V is really quiet at 7V, and reasonable at 12V, above that the whooshing air starts to get noisy

I just can't stand any fan above 35db. I have a panaflow 120mm low @ 30db and it's just right for me. I've got it blowing on my SK-6 now, and it'll move to my radiator as soon as I get a drill press to make my waterblocks.

More power to ya if you guys wanna get noisy fans, but you can accomplish alot more if you just got a second radiator and more low output fans.

No you are better off with large fans throttled back as the thicker fans are better at backpressure handling. Also the bigger motor has more torque which helps the backpressure. Radiators need fans which can handle decent backpressure. Also big fans give more capacity if you need it.

Butcher... When you get a nice open heatercore, 24cm x 16.5cm x 50cm. And you have nice big holes for air to go through, and lots of surface area...

Each triangle on my radiator has a base of 4mm, and a width of 10 mm. That equates to a 20mm square hole for air to go through. Each hole has a total surface area then of 100mm square. 100mm square by 101 triangle openings per row, and that's 10100mm square per row. Or 101cm square. Then my radiator has 15 rows, so that's 1515cm square of lovly copper heat removing surface area. You tell me that two low output 120mm panaflow fans with a small shroud to funnel air isn't more than enough to cool it....

Yes if you have a black ice, that has a higher density of fins, yes, you'd need more preassure, but when you just go out and get a BIG copper heater core for 16 bucks, you're not gonna need much more than a couple nice and quiet fans.
