Re: 1 TB Limit?
OK, getting back to the original topic,
I just bought 4 Seagate 320GB 7200.10 drives Formated to 4 299GB drives Raid 5 started as 910GB, but after creating backup drive it is the size below. Raid 5 config with original power supply, total size = 897,834 Software 4.0.860 (US) Hardware 2.0.1 BIOS 2.0.252 Took about 45 minutes to format all 4 drives, two hours to create raid 5, and 24 hours to build backup drive. Here is the log from the point I put them in and turned it on: I System Database : SDB has been written to flash at 2006/10/15 20:40:27. Re: 1 TB Limit?
Okay, two things...
#1, stupid question or not (to you IT types), what are these log entries all about? I DHCP: T2 length was 0 is now 453600 Network 10/13/2006 9:29:20 PM I DHCP: T1 length was 0 is now 302400 Network 10/13/2006 9:29:20 PM #2, and more on topic. Other than the time it took to build the backup drive, does anyone see any issues? I didn't see any problems in there... Okay, okay, so three things. The real question is, if you break that RAID, and I am talking about removing a drive as if one failed (not doing it in the GUI), wipe that removed drive and stick it back in (simulating a replacement), will it format and rebuild correctly? And, with large amounts of data there that can verified as still good when it is done? (say with CRC codes or something) |

I just had a brain fart.... What would happen with the 4 x 320gig Raid5 Array, if we were to change the block size to a higher value. I don't recall the default size. For testing purposes if default is 4k size and bump it to 16k. Would it help on the 1-1.2T limit????? It would reduce some large number by 25%

Re: 1 TB Limit?
I dunno about the bock size part, maybe is all I can say... But as for that file system warning, I got a similar warning when my 4000 was doing the RAID 5 setup for 4 x 30 GB drives the other day (sorry, I cleared the log, so I can't show it to you). So I am wondering if that is just a normal thing for the 4000.
