dude, you powder coated the car?
Where did you take it to get done?
sweet looking.
His is a 93 gt.
He's been doing alot of engine work.
pretty much anything and everything that he can do himself, he's done.
When I am there for thanksgiving I will have to take pics.

no no... sadly I didn't powder coat my car, as I couldn't find an oven big enough I painted it base/clear.

ok..just checking..
I keep telling my brother..
(obviously this is where I show my age compared to his)
That he needs to find a kiln or oven big enough and do it...
Oh, the looks I get from him when I bring that up.
What size oven are you using, btw?
He's going to try using a different technigue for the case, since the oven won't fit my case...

I just use an old wall mount oven, outta my kitchen Really? your case won't fit? mine JUST fit in my oven, and i have a fairly large full tower case. I had to cut the chassis in order to powder coat it (the translucent blue part).

the oven we're using is really small.
Barely fits a motorcycle wheel.
That's about 17 inches..
so my 15x24x8 full tower is a no go..
but he's going to try using a propane tank with a heater attachment..
He's never done it before but wants to try it...
Says he's been told it works, but again, he's never done it before.
so hopefully the case cover will be a beautiful black when I get back there...
and then I can get the case itself done.
I see you have the aopen hx08..I believe?

You're correct, I have the AOpen HX08. Where did your brother get his powder coating system? Eastwood?

You're taking your case all apart to do it correct?

I have the same case..very very nice..
Yeah, stripping the hole system down to nothing.
Not sure where it gets it from..
Found it on the internet, and it's the only place he gets it from anymore.

I get mine from eastwood. But yeah, the lamp should work, as long as it can get the metal to 400F or whatever temp your brothers PC flows out at.

I am trying to remember where he gets it from..
Oh well, I will have to ask him..
I can hopefully talk him into pc'ing the case itself..all depends on how well the cover does...

i'm looking to buy my own, kind've noobish and annoyin in the least to pay to have someone else do it, and at this point it would be cheaper to buy my own equipment.

Neo, here's the link to where I got/get my powder coat stuff (bought one of the first kits they made about 6-7 years ago). The original powder coat kit is on sale for 129.99 at the moment, and I have no clue why anyone would buy the supposed "professional" gun.... which I can see no difference in, besides the looks, and they want 899.99 for it?????? Anyway, here's that link to the world of powder coating.

looks like youre off to a good restoration start though :-) . I was thinking abotu having the intake of my LT-1 powdercoated black when i get the new engine after the new year. And i think as far as metal parts go on a case powdercoating is a great idea,, as for a waterblock though.. just try and see, worse that happens youre out a $40-$50 waterblock.

UPDATE: I powder coated a new block I made the other night with a clear powder, the silver solder didn't melt, so everything is fine. Came out pretty good, except the copper turned a bit darker from the 350F. But if you were to do the block a translucent, that'd probably look cool, I might try another one soon.

awesome, what exactly do you use to bake the powdercoated parts dude?

was reading on eastwoodco's site and they made a reference that i shouldnt use an oven used in preparing food, which poses a slight difficulty for me :-\

if you use an oven...buy a cheap spare you don't care about. People that do home powder coating for car parts do this...

because you don't wanna be killed by your wife or girlfriend because her food she cooks now taste funny...

Yeah, you can use an oven, just not one you plan to cook in ever again. That wouldn't be good. I use an old wall mounted oven, that I have out in my garage.
