Default Cheapest place to buy heatercores

Just like the title says. I have been looking for some used BIP's but am getting nowhere and I don't have the patience. So I am back on the core search but I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction since I keep finding $100+ cores. Thanks

Yeah I have used Autozone too but now that I am looking for a 10x6x1 core I am getting prices of $100+. I will definately check out the zone though. Thanks.

try autoparts store you can think off...

i tryed advance autoparts, autozone, murrays discount auto, napa, etc. even tryed some local shops specializing in radiator repair. they were teh most expensive though. most of the auto stores buy from the same manufacturer though so prices will be about the same. murrays was the cheapest for me.

otherwise got to junkyards, scrapyards, or those things where all the junk cars are in rows with the hoods open to look at parts...saw this on tv somewhere, and this would be great for looking for rads.

All these are Fedco numbers:

Core WxHxD Price area/$
2-564 5.5x7.25x1.25 $40 1
2-569 7.25x6.1x1.25 $55 .81
2-692 8.25x7.8x1 $30 2.2 nice price, but it looks like it is alu
2-524 6.25x6.4x1 $50 .8
2-654 8.25x6.3x1 $82 .63
2-682 6.6x7.25x1 $54 .89
2-658 7.5x6.5x.75 $40 1.25 Looks nice for a rad box, from Chrysler late 80's minivans, copper
2-717 8.6x6.4x1.25 $54 1.02

Those are pretty much the best <1.5 inch heater cores I could find. I would really like to get confirmation on the 2-692 as far as materials because I've seen some conflicting information concerning alu vs cu on it.

Oooh, 1" thick heatercores. Nice stuff. Would allow me to do a multicolored setup in the same space as a standard.

Heater cores cannot be seen under the hood though. They are burried under the dash of the car which needs to be taken apart. I got 3 cores from a scrap yard at $9 each but do not USE a core from the junk yard in a system. Way to much crap in them.

If it has bling then it is definitely worth the money.

Bling seems to be the magic word on this site this month. I guess big players need bright bling.

Seems like a good deal, this would be less hassle. And even new heatercores will have tons of crap in them from soldering and generally need to be cleaned out before installing into the loop.

Indeed. I pulled 3 cores from the scrap yard and use one regularly in a system. it has been 2 years of constant draining and refilling plus a good cleaning when I got it and still grim comes out of it. I would highly recommend not using cores pulled from cars from the scrap yard especially if you have a cascade or white water or anything with small channels and openings. Hell those blocks should be used with inline filter any though.

If you can tolerate a 10*6*2 you can pick up a ford econoline core for less then 30 bucks at autozone. At least you could in 2003 when i bought mine.

That would be perfect if not for the 2 inch thick part. As I use papst FGL's that push a whopping 1/2 a CFM I need a core not more than an inch thich. I actually think I am going to go towards Bill's direction with a Black Ice Pro III.

and apart and apart. Buried deep.

Still I'd thought to get some that way, or from a shop that swaps in A/C systems. Changed my mind learning how "the grim comes out".

How about THIS.

Pretty close, at 6 x 11, and it's only 3/4" thick so it'll work pretty well with your Papst. I just ordered a 9 3/4 x 11 so I can mount 4 120mm Sanyo Denki's. Pretty good stuff.
