That's an interesting piece of advice.

It should be noted that pumps designed to run in aquariums, usually encounter a relatively low flow resistance.

In a PC cooling loop, the flow restriction is a fiar bit higher, and that causes the pump to draw more power and, in turn, heat up some more.

So monitoring the pump temperature would be a good idea, when using a pump that's never been used before, or in an unusually restrictive loop.

im confused as to what an oil based pump is, does it somehow circulate the water using oil?

I think the oil cools and lubricates the little motor in the pump, mag drive pumps use water that it circulates to cool.

Actually, I think that the oil cools the engine compartment.
