Default FS: Brand new rare BH-5 RAM - $65 a stick

I'm just about to take delivery of some brand new PC3200 256MB sticks of RAM featuring Winbond BH-5 IC's (W942508BH-5)

They are all retail boxed, unsold stock and in very limited supply.

I'll post photos here when they arrive this Wednesday.
In the meantime you can register interest in this thread or by email.

Price will be $65 per stick including shipping.

Shipping is from the UK and takes around 7 days to arrive.

Insurance is optional and costs an additional $5 per package (regardless of how many sticks you buy).

However, if insurance isn't selected, I am understandably unable to take responsibility for lost/damaged shipments.

Payment by PayPal (credit cards accepted) but I can only ship to CONFIRMED addresses.

If you don't have a confirmed address, then I can accept payment by BidPay.

UK buyers can pay using Fastpay, NoChex, Cheque, Postal order, bank transfer or deposit.

If there are any questions, please email me directly.
(Sorry, there are no 512MB sticks available at this time).

Thanks.

How is this ram any better than the PC3200 256meg sticks we can get here in the states for $50 shipped at www.newegg.com? I assume there is some advantage?

Well it utilises the legendary Winbond BH-5 ICs which are renowned for being able to run at extremely tight (2-2-2...) timings at very high speeds (250MHz/DDR500 is not uncommon) and also being especially tolerant of voltages (running 24/7 at 3.3VDIMM is considered safe).

Winbond ceased manufacture of this 'B' revision sometime in 2003 as apparently the associated production costs were prohibitive.
They switched to a simpler process which yielded the inferior CH-5 ICs (Revision C) and have now dropped out of the memory business for good.

It is therefore now extremely difficult to get hold of modules using these chips, even more so new and as such recent prices for 2nd hand 1GB kits have been as high as $400 (see eBay etc).

A search on most overclocking forums for 'BH-5' will bear out the fanatical reverence for these ICs.

Is it the same if shipped on the other side of the world?
What brand(s) are those, any Company warranty?

You'd be looking at $3 per stick more for shipping to Asia/Australia.

I can personally offer a 7 day DOA warranty.

Beyond that the warranty would be with the manufacturer who offer a lifetime warranty.

The brand is 'Ram Bo' also known as 'Muse'.

They're a well established (over 10 years) Asian company dealing primarily in memory and memory-related products:

Well I would hope my feedback would go someway to assuring you but I think you could also take some comfort in the fact that if paying via PayPal using your credit card, should you receive a brick, then it would merely be a formality for you to ask your credit card provider to reclaim the funds.

Moreover, once the RAM arrives tomorrow, I'll post some photos here with an indication that they were taken recently and are not simply stolen from someone else (ie. the photo will feature a note with my User ID and the date).

However, if this is still not sufficient, then I am more than willing to accept payment via escrow (www.escrow.com where I have an account) but you would be responsible for the charges.

Just a quick note to say that the RAM has been delayed by 24 hours.
It will be arriving on Thursday morning so I'll have photographs up Thursday evening.

The RAM has now arrived.

I'm pleased to confirm that it's Winbond BH-5 and single-sided:

(Note that the original outer cardboard boxes were discarded to make shipping more economical).

I currently have 2 sticks of buffalo PC3700, which are also Winbond BH-5 chips, do you think there will be any compatibility issues?

I couldn't say for sure.
The only differences are likely to be the SPD settings (which no one using BH-5 would sanely use anyway).

My Corsair pc3500 BH-5 doesn't pass memtest at default 433mhz 2.5-3-3-7 timings either... They won't post at cl 2.5 at all.. They run fine at 470Mhz 2-2-2-10 (dual channel) in the same mobo @ 2.8v though...

Hey Nightic, pick one of those sticks that fail memtest and test it with the Blend test of prime95, if it can run without error at least 12h you can be sure the stick is ok, and by the way you can sell two of them to me

Regards.
