I need a fan 4 my system that...

My planned system will be mainly watercooled. I'm shooting for quiet. But still over clockability. I'm thinking about using 2 heater cores. I currently have a 1989 escort w/AC HC at my house, and I'll prob add 1 more. They will be cooling my GPU, North bridge, 2 HD's and the prob. dual pelts will be cooled with the 2nd heater core. My idea is to have the 2 HC's at the top of my case and seal that section off so all the air exchanging is channeled.

I'd like to have a big fan blow in filtered air and have each HC with it's own exaust. I'd need the big fan's CFM to = the 2 exaust's total CFM.

So, does anybody know where I can get a fan (it CAN be bigger than 120mm) that has a large CFM and a low dBA? I'm gonna be living in a dorm fall 2002 and I'd like my room mate to not hate me :->

I currently have a YS Tech 120mm that does 136cfm, but it's a tad loud, if I run it at 7V or 5V it's fine tho.

I've seen some ppls with fans that do 200 + cfm, so where can I get them? I figure that a huge fan (200 mm or so) could pull some serious CFM at low noise (maybe having to drop the voltage tho, I dunno.)

If I'm totally off base and soom to be looking for a fan utopia (low noise/high CFM) please let me know.

I'm VERY open to ideas as I've not build this system, and won't till school's out.

thats exactly the fan i was thinking of. just take a patriot fan and run it at like 12v and it should still push good air but still be silent. if its still too loud i know people who have sanded the fins which made a noticable difference...

at 24v that fan will be ultra loud, while at 12v it should be virtually silent, it mightn't run at 5v or 7v, but if it does, it will be silent

If one obtained a fan such as that, how would one power it? My friend has some obsession with large fans that probably will do nothing to decrease his temperatures (due to the fact his house is like a sauna). But I keep telling him he has no way to power a "24v" fan, although this fib helps him not spend money, I'd really love to know just how it would be done.

I have a 24V 172mm fan. It's stall voltage is around 6V. This means it runs fine off a 12V supply from your comp. As for silent, sadly not. Bearing noise alone makes it non silent, at 7V it's a low rumble, at 12v it's a quiet roar, at 24 it's a loud roar.

As the saying goes - the only silent fan is one that's switched off.

chose 1 that has sleeve bearings, not ball bearings if u want quiet.
